Hello everyone.
O.K. so I'm very new here but very excited to give this a go.
My question is.
In the open challenges is it ok to use lighting other than
the available light for our shots?
Thanks for any help and advice.

Hi quicksnaps... welcome to DPC!

Not quite sure that I get the meaning of your question - you can use whatever means of natural or artificial lighting you want for the shot. What you cannot do is add lighting within photoshop (ie. add a ray or beam of light) during post-processing. You can use dodge & burn techniques to highlight/modify the way that the lighting looks in your shot, but not change the voters perception of the actual image.

Make sense ?

ETA/correct: in the OPEN challenges - (basic post-processing) - you cannot use dodge/burn. Only applicable in Member (advanced) challenges.

Yes thanks for your help roba
I was speaking more along the lines of the artificial lighting.
I'm thinking it might help for some low light situations outdoors.

Anything external to the camera, within your vision, within the frame, on the set of your image, is allowed no matter what rule set.

This is the creative part that your juices can muster up without editing.

The rule set are there mainly for post production (PP).

If you want to change the lighting in pp, then I think you would have to wait for an "expert editing" rule set.
