It does kind of ruin the whole idea of the olympics. I wouldn't mind seeing olympic trials conducted beforehand. Like in real life you compete to make the squad. You could run them for 1-2 weeks before the olmypics.

There are 4956209582058 more US member than any other country on this board.

Since the Olympics are about many different sports what about having much larger teams that way each team could be broken down by "sport"?

For example you could have a USA Team comprised of the following:

Macro Team
Wildlife Team
Landscape Team
Portrait Team

Also, lets get back to head to head competition! I would love to see a USA Landscape Team vs a Iceland Landscape Team and so on and so forth. This would allow for more people to join that way we don't alienate anybody. If there is not enough members to fill all these sub-teams then allow for some overlap.

What do you think?

whooooo, wow, sounds good, but i think it would be a nightmare to score.

I think for that we are going to have to ask Dirtdiver first if it is possible to do anything like that before we look into it any further, sound fair enough????

Sure. I'm just throwing it out there.

ETA: The main thing that is missing in all of this is the lack of a head to head component. There is absolutely no connection with the other teams so I've pretty much lost all interest in the current format.

Having a few US teams to make more room would be good, and also for any other countries that seem to have enough interested people in them. Just a thought.

If we do go with multiple teams per country that wouldn't be all that different than what I'm proposing. Instead of having "USA 1" and "USA 2" I'm suggesting they be "USA speciality 1", "USA speciality 2", etc.

I think the "head-to-head" idea was rejected because it gave the impression that it was an "elimination" format.
As a member who gets excited when my images get near six, I appreciate the opportunity to participate. I'm doing this for the team involvement and as a push to be more active.
I won't enjoy a scheme that discourages my participation.

No, Yanko, we weren't asked whether we wanted to do it again first.

Juliet, putting something in the Team USA thread isn't the same thing as asking and getting responses. I just happened to not read the Team USA thread for the past 27 hours. Our thread has been mostly about prepping for challenges, and since we were done discussing last night's entries, there wasn't any strong reason to check in until some voting had happened. So I just saw it.

As an approach for building harmony, I don't think it's a good idea to tell current team members "sorry, you lost the race to sign up and so you're out."

No major angst here, because I had decided to step down anyway. But I would've been annoyed otherwise.

As to whether to have more than one USA team, I think you need to consider why you're doing this. If you're trying to create a fun league where lots of people can come together on teams to play each other, then I do think you need to make room for more USA people. I'd bet the vast majority of DPC members are from the US.

If you're doing this solely for country-by-country competition, then I suggest some other way of inviting people to play than first-come, first-served. How about a lottery, with maybe a week for people to indicate interest and then you pick names at random?

there is no line, One American Team is all ready filled.

Now the other American Team can be filled.

The NOrth South thing is just until someone give me a name for their American Team

edited to add before it becomes a north south thing, the names have changed

It is now USA Spiderman and USA Superman

also added, that Team USA SPIDERMAN has been filled
