How many times do photographers take on weddings and on so many occasions have to knock back weddings due to being booked already? That happens to me a lot. I have been able to do two weddings in a day....but most times I have to turn people away. Well the most flattering conversation happened to me the other day.

I was approached at a public event by a lady I had done portraits of before of her partner and their baby son. She was pregnant with her second child at the time. I never heard much feedback from the couple except when I ran into her partner a couple of months ago and he indicated that they loved the images. Anyways the other day when the lady ran into me she said that they will have to get me back to do a second round of images when the second child arrives (she has 10 weeks to go). She said that they are now getting married. I congratulated her and asked her when. She said that is the problem. All they know is they want me for the wedding...and so they have decided they won't get married unless I was there. So they want to find out my available dates and book their wedding for when I am available.

Now how many times do couples book their wedding around the photographer?

Just a good moment that I thought I would share with you all. With all the bad wedding stories and such....this is a rare gem in a sea of pebbles.

What a wonderful feeling! Doesn't surprise me though Judi, they want the best.

Funny you should mention that... this actually happened to me twice this month! I had a bride call me a few weeks ago. I had shot the weddings of her two cousins last summer, and she literally wanted to set her date based on when I was available this fall.

I got a similar call from another person just a week or so later. A good feeling indeed!

I think it depends on the customer's viewpoint and experience. We're looking at booking a party for our son's bar Mitzvah, and we've been looking at photo books. My wife looks at them and says "this one looks good" and I look at it and say "this photographer is ok, but not creative at all" and so I pass on it.

My point is, once you see what's out there and possible, as I have learned by getting much more into photography and seeing what's possible on this site and what other, non-run-of-the-mill photographers have done at events, I want and expect to have that kind of creative, out-of-the-box expertise in a photographer that I hire (btw, it's killing me that I can't be the photog at our own event, and whoever we hire better be able to put up with me suggesting shots, hahaha).

Congrat's on the requests - that is definitely a mark of greatness.

heck, I just feel flattered when people are willing to pay me :D

speaking of which... Judi, have you considered raising your prices? Not to sound greedy but, I've always heard that being THAT in demand means your prices may be too low. besides, you ARE very good, and deserve it

just sayin

Thanks heaps everyone. As for prices, my packages range between $1000 and $1800-00 with no albums and up to 20 prints of different sizes included. I will be changing my packages soon due to a change in circumstances, so I may look at changing my prices then as well.
