Dang! I knew it wasn't a ribbon-in-waiting, but I was hoping to stay above 6 with my Orange shot to keep a 6+ streak alive, but it has since fallen to 5.87 with 78 votes (at least my magazine cover is hovering aroung 6.5).

Like others, my comment rate has really fallen off (only 9 total comments for both challenges in voting) after averaging about 23 for the last 8 entries. To be fair, my last two entries were submitted minutes before the deadline, and I didn't have time to comment on others' photos, but I'll probably have a marathon commenting session this week to make up for it- I try to give more than I receive. I pretty much know why my pics score where they do (except for the odd 1 and 10 votes), and I rarely see any real constructive criticism in the comments I receive anyway. I just like to hear from the DPC 'family'.

I think that some people are just too closed minded about the challenge. People can still be creative and be within meeting the challenge. But those that are voting low don't seem to get it.

As long as you like you're photo, the score doesn't really matter.

I agree. I'm getting stomped but I expected some people to require 100% orange to give a good score.

Sometimes I vote low, and I try to comment when I do, but I think all the talk about people having closed minds when it comes to submissions meeting the challenge is nonsense. When I get comments about not meeting the challenge I chalk it up to me not getting my point across I guess. When I'm voting, I like to be able to see how the submission fits the challenge without having to stretch too far. I'll score higher if I see that the artist was trying interpret the challenge in a different way or if it's clever, but if I'm sitting there staring at it trying to figure out how it can possibly fit the challenge I score it low. If it's a beautiful photo, I will usually comment and explain my low score.
If you want to score high and win, you need to look at what type of photos win. Most of the time the winners hit you over the head with the challenge, if that's not the type of photography you want to do, you should expect lower scores.

I knew it. I should have gone with my alternate submission...

68 / 4.8 / 2

One comment says there is no orange, the other says how great it is.

Always good to pick a colour that's out on the fringes of the displayable and recordable gamuts :)

Are you sure that's a bear? I think it's a cat.

Of course it's a bear. Had it been a cat shot, I would have received much lower scores.

(Uhm, it's a really small bear though. Actually, it's a bear cub. Yes. That's what it is.)

I thought it was a cat ... or a dead bug ... or maybe a cat, bug and bear together on a railroad track chasing each other...
