I'm looking online at the different brands and sunpac has two different filters, one is Sunpak-CF-7059-Circular-Polarized-Filter and the other is the Sunpak-DF-7059-CP-Coated-Circular-Polarizer. so my question is what is the difference between a circular Polarized filter and a circular polarizer?

None. One PL is coated, the other isn't. If you're looking for quality, I recommend B + W (Schneider Ootics) or Heliopan. They're not cheap though.

I'm happy with my Hoya Pro circular polarizer, but again they don't come cheap.

You need the coated one, preferably multicoated.

To answer your question, you want the circular polarised filter. Linear polarised filters will sometimes work, but on some cameras they play havoc with the focus or exposure systems. Linear polarised filters are handy for other specific applications, so they are still sold, but as a general PL filter, you want the circular polarised one. Oh, I just realised they are both circular. Silly me. :(

Anyway, I would recommend getting the most expensive one you can afford. (I know, everyone always says this). But cheaper polarising filters can certainly have bad effects on your photos, to the extent that you won't want to use it, so it is a waste of money. Cheaper filters can introduce reflections (this is what the coatings are mostly design to help), and can introduce colour casts. They can also de-laminate over time, so they go blotchy at the edges. I have a Hoya, and have been very happy with it. I don't know what sunpak are like.

Check Ritz Camera also. They have a couple of versions...I use their top-of-the-line model and they've worked fine for me. Still not inexpensive, but not thru the roof like the Hoya's, etc...

thanks for the responses, I ordered a used Sunpak Coated Circular Polarizer, they wanted two bucks for it and claimed they put it on display and tossed the box. but either way if it turns out bad, I haven't had much experience in this part of the photography field so, Thanks everyone for the recommendations:) Hoya is starting to sound like the way to go with filters:)

Well, for $2, you can't really go wrong, can you? :) Sounds like a great deal, and will be a good introduction for you to using a PL filter. If you find you use it lots, and want better quality, you can upgrade later, and you haven't really lost anything.
