So we were on vacation out West a few weeks ago... took lots of pictures, had a great time, blah blah blah. On our way home, we stopped in Amarillo, Texas, and enjoyed a really fun meal at the Big Texan steak house. We ordered an appetizer platter, which included among other things "Mountain Oysters."

We really enjoyed the appetizer platter. As a fan of all things fried and delicious, I was in my glory with the oysters, cheese sticks, jalapenos, etc.

Now here it is, three weeks later, and we have learned (thanks to a story on the Food Channel and some subsequent Googling) that "Mountain Oysters" are actually code words for "bull testicles."

I'm going to spend the next several days brushing my teeth.

That's awesome--I figured it was common knowledge. :) But hey, fry it, wrap it in a tortilla, or put it between two slices of bread and anything tastes good!

Also, I guess we need to beware of "lamb fries."

If you ever change your mind and want to become a connoisseur of such things, the Buckhorn Exchange in Denver has some great Rocky Mountain Oysters! :)

Wow man, you should have called, I would have informed you and you would have been saved. They can also go by Rocky Mountain Oysters. Just another version of the same thing.

You should have asked here first. I'm from Colorado originaly and there we call them "Rocky Mt. Oysters". Look at this way, before you knew what they were you loved them. Too funny though.

I live near Pittsburgh. You see, if we had things like this on the menu, we'd just come right out and tell you what you were eating. No need for fancy code names. We'd just come right out and say "Bull Balls - $7" or whatever.

I hate to admit it, but as I was eating them, and as my brain was thinking "oysters," I actually thought they were pretty tasty. And oddly enough, my testosterone level has been sky high these last few weeks.
