Wow, I went in to rent the "War Lens" Calumet in San Diego's 400 2.8 non IS and the tech and I noticed that there were marks on the inner glass. On closer investigation we found that a previous renter had for some reason actually taken the lens apart and "Wiped" the inner glass. It looked as though he used a scouring pad or something abrasive! wholly crap! We took the outer glass off to see if we could get to the inner glass and only made it through the first glass. It became a bit complicated beyond that and we gave up. I'll be using the lens this weekend and seriously doubt the marks will effect anything I shoot but what in the world was this kook thinking? Would any of you ever consider attempting anything like this... especially if it's not even your lens?
