...and didn't already know....

AB has found fault in their RFT1 transmitters and receivers and is no longer offering that line. Because of the faults, they are offering to buy back any RFT1s you have so you can buy new/better units. I discovered this after my own transmitter died on me this week. More info can be found here: //alienbees.com/rft1trade.html

Wow! Thank you! Mine died last month, and I was going to toss it in the garbage, but this is great news! Thanks for pointing it out.

I made this trade several months ago... and it was VERY worth the effort and a few extra bucks. The old controllers used to fire off the Bees at random quite a bit. There were times where one or both of them would just sit there and flash repeatedly, which made me look like an idiot at a couple events.

The new controller has worked flawlessly for me so far, and it's not draining batteries either.

I have the RR1T + 4 RR1R's. they are offering 25% discount on the CyberSync system to people who have purchased the RR1 Series. Tempting. But would much rather have that trade in option instead.

So they are giving credit just for 1 rft1 receiver which is valued at $39.99 and I would have to buy a new receiver and transmitters for each alien bee, correct?

I believe they're giving credit for each rft1 receiver & transmitter that you have. You have to buy the Cyber sync transmitter & receiver, but you only need one receiver for each alien bee; the ones not hooked up can be slaves to the master.

You only need one transmitter, to sit on the camera - and ONE reciever no matter how many strobes you have. You don't need a receiver for each light. One receiver talks to them all.

Ok, thats wonderful, right now using the faulty system I have 1 transmitter on my camera and 1 receiver per flash unit (3). I guess that is not the case with these new ones.

I'm not sure that's technically true... one transmitter will trigger a receiver on one or more strobes. If you only have one receiver on one strobe, it's the burst of light from that first strobe that is triggering the other strobes. It's not the receiver that's technically triggering the additional strobes.

Personally I've felt better having a receiver on each AB so each of them are being triggered directly from the transmitter, rather than from one another. If you were in brighter light outdoors, for example, a second AB might have a hard time sensing the light to be triggered from the first AB. With a receiver on each one, you're more certain of having everything fire properly.

Well, not quite. It may work with one receiver, but that's only because the other AB's are picking up the sudden change in light when the first unit goes off and firing in slave mode. If you're outside, or in a bright room, the slaves might not fire. A receiver on each unit ensures that they will.

Note to self: type faster before Freed gets in there and makes you look like a goober for repeating him.

Ok, so if I send in my transmitter and my 3 receivers, I will get credit for each when I buy the better units?

Yep... you'll get credit for each of the individual components you're sending in, toward the price of the new, improved versions.

Yes. If in doubt, call them. The company's customer service is top notch.

lol not sure alan is all the blame for the gooberisms in this thread. I think you might need an extra cup of coffee or two.
