I "occasionally" will get a come back of "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING" and justifiably so...so I have to rethink some of my comments...I really do try to take time...not that "my opinion" counts for anything...I am so very new to this, but I will admit that when I take the time to do all the comments I learn and I am getting "braver" with them

An honest opinion is so much better than a fake sincere one. Your comment on my free study was the complete opposite of my feeling for it. You thought the colors were flat, and for some reason, that's why I really liked it. I knew it would do poorly when I entered it, but something about it really spoke to me, so I wanted to see what type of response I would get. I would much rather know why something doesn't work for someone than a "nice flower" comment.

edited to add: a person's reaction is always valid. Even if you only give a photo a quick glance and don't look at it in depth. Perhaps you'd like it better if you looked more, but it tells us that, on first glance, it doesn't capture interest. a lot of people only give quick glances, so that is a valid point of view as well.

you think yours did poorly...ck out mine (look at the end of the challenge)...but I knew going in that people here just don't like the "artistic brushes" I took a chance...oh well...but I know what you mean...just wish people would tell you "something" about their first impression

Well I don't think I ever remember seeing my numbers climb this much out of a hole before(mind you it's not like I've been in 100 challenges). I started at 6am this morning at 4.0. 7 hours later 4.68. It's getting there. I'll be happy with anything over 5 in that case.

Well when I went to bed my score was a 3.71....

and now its a 4.12, which I thought was promising until I came across this....

4.5 to 4.9999 bad but seen worse
5.0 to 5.4999 good
5.5 to 5.9999 nice
6.0 to 6.4999 really nice
6.5 to 6.9999 awesome
above 7.0 great (or super superb)

and I laughed when someone asked what was below a 4.5 and someone said 'time to give up camera and take up golf'....

Lol.....

Gotta love it.....

Thanks for the comment Ja-9. I really appreciate it. I love when someone can offer a good critique that I can still feel good about. Obviously, my photo sucks, but your comment gave me areas to learn for next time. Thanks so much!

ETA I wrote this before I read below about your commenting :-) I think it's great! Just tell the truth, and if you get too many complaints during voting, be a baghead. It really does help. I stopped getting all the arguing and "I meant to do that" emails during voting, and they don't send them after voting because usually someone else would say the same thing (I only comment on the obvious or my opinion since I am still learning technically). Your comments are great! keep them coming!
