I stated the first part in my last post but the ending remarks relates directly to this side Challenge (or degree of seriousness) and that is, that it is not easy and if you truly want to learn how to do it right or lend meaning to these images, you'll need to swim in deeper waters.

I started reading this thread too,
Street Photography tips?

Check out some other sites besides DPC. There's a lot of awesome stuff about.

Seconds to Real
Public Life - this has links to videos by some of the very well known street photographers. Well worth checking out a few.

I like that term, and it describes what I do also. I don't hide the camera, but neither do I go out of my way to let people know I'm using it. I usually shoot from the hip, sometimes from the chest. I like to get up close. If it's cool enough for a jacket, I operate the camera from my pockets as the camera hangs around my neck. It sounds sneaky, but I do it only because it's comfortable. And my hands stay warm.

Thanks for the links, Sarah. I'm familiar with in-public but not the other two.

You mentioned Elliott Erwitt in a comment you left for me. He's another good one to check out. B&W magazine did a feature on him an issue or two back.

I am a bit late to the party but can you still add me to the list please? plan to spend two weeks in Marseille this month, so hope for some good street opportunities there. For now - some older photos, recently processed.

shot this while at the zoo, there were hundreds of very annoying kids there that day in school groups but this family were great and seemed to be having a great time

Here is mine, I got this one in Denver; and only wish that I could have gotten more light on the subject. The lensbaby really seemed to work here.

Not urban street environment (Multnomah Falls, OR-tourist attraction), but the photog looked quite serious about his business...
