Yeah, but now a days, hes charging for information you can essentially get for free all over the internet...plus that high price point just encourages piracy as well.

Oh, I'm sure there are tons of people clammering to get their hands on it... Even knowing you can get the info for free on the internet, who has the time to search for it... sometimes having "just what you need" all packaged up with a bow on it for a price is good enough..

Then I congratulate Joey on making a valuable name for himself. Seems like a smarter business plan than leaving your two cents in an open forum thread. ;-)

Nice to see him progressing, going to make a stack out of it, good luck to him.

well after sitting in and listening to him at the Calgary workshop I would be half tempted to buy it if I had the money.

The thing is, its not just `someone` spouting off about how to do it - its someone telling us how HE did it, and is making a handsome living out of it and having incredible fun to boot.

I'd bet this DVD is incredibly informative and probably worth a lot more to those who are serious about a career in photography than someone who just wants to `get better` so they can win a few blue ribbons.

The web page/presentation is extremely impressive. Actually gets *me* "interested" in buying it, and I don't *need* it, LOL; I'm just a retired professional photographer dude. Whoever it is who said earlier that Joey (paraphrasing here) is trying to sell what can be had on the internet for free obviously hasn't read through the entire presentation.

Haha, I dont know how you are searching for stuff, but I got this website...www.google.com

Its pretty awesome, all I do is type in what I want to find, and it gives me a bunch of links right to it!

But overall, if dude can get people to pay $250 for it, more power to him, I mean he already got them to shell out that much for the first dvd, and it was obviously profitable enough for him to put out a 2nd one. I figure for every one that pirates it, there is another person willing to pay for it, so he wins no matter what.

I agree, It is very well presented and I am sure it is a great product. I just find the price kind of high for an informational DVD, And because he is professional and certainly want's to keep making money doing what he does, he is not going to throw all his tricks into the same bag. Somethings will not be on the DVD, If he gives up all his secrets he could lose business to others who start cloning his style. $125 might appeal to me. But even then I am not sure I would gain alot from it because I have no intentions of going All Pro. I just want to take decent pictures. And for the record. I am a fan of his work. Especially the post dpc stuff.

I think I will just watch his intro video again, pause the screens where he shows lighting setups and go from there. He's being a bit over priced and I don't see me learning anything from him. A photographer with his talent doesn't just give away secrets that could potentially drown him in his own world.

Nevertheless, he's an amazing photographer and I love his work but it would just be a waste of money.

Just out of curiosity, to those complaining, what exactly would be a fair, not overpriced price for the DVD? And what's that number based on?

$19.95 Average cost of a DVD.

Well, I just paid 200 dollars for an Adobe Upgrade, And he is selling DVD's for more than that to show how to use it. Going by that alone I think it doesn't balance out, I said above $125.00 would be more appealing but a fair price would be not more than $60.00 He would sell alot more copies and still get rich in the process.

eta: in other words, for $60.00 I would more than likely buy a copy.

I'm looking at it as similar to a photog workshop. Around here and a lot of others Ive seen for a 1 day workshop depending on what its on can go anywhere from $150 to $500 and its a one shot deal. So IMHO the price doesn't seem to bad considering I can view it as many times as I like... Like I mentioned I learned a lot when he was here and that was only about an hour long lecture...

Yeah but at a seminar you can sit and ask questions and get it tuned in to more of what you need if neccessary, while a dvd is static and if you have questions, youre on your own.

While I think $20 is way too low, I would say $100 would be a good price point. $20 is too low because dvds are $20 usually due to the very broad market for them, while this is a specialized dvd, you have a limited market, so you have to adjust to make hte money.

We can debate the price point of this all we want, but in reality, it comes down to what Joey and his business people feel is the right price. My guess is they did marketing around the price and found this was a 'fair' price, meaning that they will get the return on their investment of time and make a nice little profit on it.

I, for one, would seriously consider picking this little DVD up if I was considering going pro and wanted to learn innovative lighting techniques etc for portraits. I think the price is pretty fair, considering the fact that Joey is telling you how HE does it, and further considering what seminars of this type cost.
