Anyone own one? Thoughts?

I found a site that sells BD-R discs at 2.80 to 3.99 per 25GB disc and 12.50 per 50GB disc, which is good. Thought I would investigate where prices are at for a BD-R writer.

I actually looked for one yesterday but either they haven't released them here in New Zealand yet or they just don't carry them at the 3 stores I went to, Which seems hard to believe because one of the three claims to be the biggest computer dealer in the country. The price you found for the disks is pretty good. Last time I looked at them was about 8 months ago at a Best Buy Store and they were around $20 US per disk.

I have one - mine is a PLDS BD-RE DH-4B1S, it came with my Dell desktop. Its a POS for burning blu-ray disks - made about $50 worth of coasters trying different types of BD-R discs - never got any of them to burn. I avoided buying BD-R disks to wait for them to go down in price and in doing so allowed my warranty to expire before I realized it was likely the burner at fault.

That's odd. Light-On is a very respected burner manufacturer. Must be the Phillps side that sucks.

PLDS = Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions

Yep, they would all stop at the same point - I think it was the 12% mark - nothing was actually ever written to the disks. I think I got it when blu-ray burning was too close to the bleeding cutting edge...it may still be, i dunno.

So tempting @ 136 CDN. This one does everything.

LG Black 8X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 5X DVD-RAM 6X BD-ROM 2MB Cache 8X Blu-ray Burner

Verbatim 10 pack of 25gb discs is going for 34.99 on the site as well.

I would be able to put my entire photo collection on approximately 16 discs. All photos taken from 2003 to today on 16 discs. Wow. Can't wait for the DL discs to drop in price as well.

Will I bite?..........
