Sounds like this could be fun, I could make a day trip down from RI. Keep me in the loop.

I am definately interested as well! I LOVE walking around NYC!

Doesn't it start to get hot and muggy around end of June? I'd hate to be schlepping gear around the streets in 90+ weather... But Penny and I would definitely be interested. Add us to the list.

Would love to do this if it is between 25 Mar - 11 Apr. My wife and I should be coming to the US to do a big road trip to visit family and friends all over.

Spring would be nicer than hot humid summer, as out resident Bear points out.

June's not that bad...actually it's quite nice, not much humidity but I was considering the folks with kids who might need time closer to the summer breaks. It could very well be hot...although not nearly as powerful as midsummer. The other thing is you really don't need to lug gear around. If shooting during the day, tripods aren't necessary and a simple walk around lens or two should work. I'll most likely have an 85mm. 50 of the last 60 images posted in my portfolio were all taken with that lens so, it's definitely a way to go. I'd bet most people could go with a "super-wide", the 50mm and something longer (70-200mm) without much trouble and not miss opportunities.

If the kids issue, isn't an issue...Spring could be fine. We, just need to consider a little more rain as a possibility. Then again, I love shooting in the rain. Since I wasn't planning anything indoors as far as a studio shoot, I thought I'd go for a drier week...though you never know.

Hey pawdrix that time around June sounds good, and maybe walking from ChinaTown to Soho since they are right next to one another, there are alot of good photo opps in both

There are a million possibilities, for sure...

That was taken a few weeks back on Canal Street, the west end of China Town, entering Soho (Greene Street). Cool shooting spot without question.

Great idea, please count me in, I love NYC and go whenever I have a chance!

For those who are proposing the model workshops on the streets, don't worry about permits. As long as we stay away from sensitive areas, and avoid using huge lights, no one will bother us. I shoot all over the city and has only run into problems once - and that was because we were in the middle of Lincoln Center.

I'm in!

Yah, Spring would be great if it worked out. As far as schlepping gear, just trekking around with the 5D and the 17-40mm is fairly stressful on my poor, tired old arm as it is. Throw in the pack with the 70-200mm in it and the miscellaneous extras, and it's not something I really care to do in hot weather, old & decrepit as I am. Still, I'll survive, if it comes to that. Just plan the route so there are plenty of available stops for a restorative egg cream. And be absolutely SURE we are somewhere within shouting distance of a first-rate Jewish deli for lunch, if you ask *me*. Or maybe a good Taqueria?

Anyway we can organize this so you and I can cook a feast for the group, Steve?

I am interested, time permitting.

I don't know how low-profile street shooting would work for a group of 20 or so folks armed with big scary lenses but we can give it a try... :)

LOL!!! May have to split into smaller groups at times... :-)

That should be easy for YOU, teeny-tiny thing that you are, but what about us *large* people? Jejeje™

Well, it would be a long shot for me -- but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to work it out to be able to go. I fell so in love with New York when I was there a few weeks ago -- I can't wait to get back. Especially now, seeing so many people I'd really like to meet -- and to see again :)

Keep me in the loop if you can, okay?

Robert, we'll hire one of these jobs for you. ;)

As for pit stops, I usually have a beer every 200 yards so, no worries there. Even if we walk around for a few hours we can plan 25-30 minute rests breaks in target rich areas, where people can split off for that time and eat, drink or shoot if they wish, then reconvene and move on. I've done that with my SP workshops and goes like a charm. The main thing is to have everybody's cell numbers handy and pick a target destination (at the end) so, if people get lost there's a point they can always catch up.

As for model/street shooting. That could work BUT for the moment I'm trying to keep it simple and not go that way because it could get complex and get washed out in a moments notice. I'll think about it and if it's easy...I may try and coordinate some time with a model or two but as I sit now, I don't want to go there.

Sandy - I'd love to see you here again. We had so much fun shooting that day and we covered a lot of ground. I was think when Bear mentioned gear that you, Jen and I traveled pretty light. I don't remember any of us being loaded down and we all got really cool classic shots....Am I right?

It would be great if you could make it. We always have a good time... and you owe me a beer...? ;)

Depending on where we shoot... soho, chinatown, central park or also another idea not sure if it was mentioned a walk across the brooklyn bridge from manhattan to brooklyn there is a beautiful little park underneath both the brooklyn and manhattan bridges. Plus the Brooklyn Promenade is right there within walking distance which has awesome views of the skyline.

Hey, if Nick ( nico_blue) comes, we have a model. No need to hire anyone. :-) And if I'm going all the way to New York, it's gonna be a more than one day kinda thing for me. I'm up for sharing accomodations to reduce the cost for others who will be traveling.

Sorry for off-thread question, just curious - is this posed or candid?

I am also willing to model, for the right price. The more you are willing to pay, the more clothing I'll leave on. ;-)

Meanwhile, back to reality, there are plenty of NYC locals (aside from those who have already checked in) who might want to come: AP, k4ffy, muur88, Nikolai1024, roby21112, Rompy, RulerZigzag, The_Dentist ...

Steve, keep it simple. I'm all for a walkabout shoot, NO models...too much hassle and not fun having 10,000 people juggling for a shooting position around a model.

Amen to that. I've got no interest in a model shoot and I doubt Penny does either; we just wanna bird-dog Steve around *his* city and see what *he* sees. We'd probably give this a pass if it turns into a model-oriented shoot.
