I am in a slump when it comes to my music, the same thing has been on my ipod/computer for the last 3 years. I listen to the radio then forget to write down what the song was.

So do you listen to music??

If so what do you listen too?

Or Does it distract you?

Or does it just fade into nothing when you are editing?

From my Napster playlist:

Oumou Sangare
Erik Friedlander (yes, he's reated to Lee -- his son)
Mingus
Stan Kenton
Tin Hat Trio
Stravinsky
Nomo
William Parker
The Challengers
Joe Henderson

List goes on...

It doesn't distract me. It calms me -- helps me focus.

"I am Iron Man" over and over.

Or lately Bollywood/Hindi.

Anything the kids don't like so they won't bother me.

What's editing?

I like the radio (satellite) because it is commercial free and I don't know what is going to play next. I find with MP3 players, it gets predictable. Even random doesn't do it for me. Stations spend a lot of effort working on play lists. The music flows for a reason.

I listen to my brother, he is usually playing classic rock on one of his newly built electrics... :)

My Last.fm profile lists the vast majority of my listening.
If I'm at my computer, I'm listening to music. I don't find that it distracts me at all, and in many instances, it gets me into more of a rhythm and more efficient at doing things. When I'm really concentrating on things I'm not paying attention to the music but I'm still aware of it, so it's kinda a combination of the two.

...I usually strive to listen to the person next to me who actually knows about editing and is trying to explain things to me... :O)

It really depends on my mood. I cycle drastically.

For example, today, I was listening to Pink Floyd, but right now, I'm listening to Thomas Newman and the soundtrack to Finding Nemo.

In general, I'm probably listening to classical while editing.

Depends on the image, really I like to listen to music that reminds me of the image or maybe it's the image that reminds me of the music...either way. Sometimes it's Slayer, sometimes it's Sigur Ros, other times it's something else.

Usually it is my wife's television shows blaring in the background. When I can choose, it's either silence or my custom country station on Pandora.com.

Depends on my mood or if I'm moody lol.... Pretty much always have music on though. I listen to a lot of alternative & rock/hard rock, but it's really all over the place, classical to country, pop to punk. Sometimes it's distracting, sometimes it brings out the creative ideas (sometimes that requires beer ;P ), usually it fades into the background slightly but it's always there and I notice if it stops for some reason. Not sure if that helps though ;)
