As suggested previously in this thread: Original Masters Emulation, but let's narrow it down to just one master.

Edward Hopper

Use light, shadows and angles to emulate Edward Hopper's style.

Well, that would get my vote Rina :)

I think it would be wonderful challenge to vote on. Not to mention shoot for.

Excellent link Brian! That will help a lot for those who may be unfamiliar.

Great thanks for sharing that.

Loved the quote

Works for me and Penny :-) We actually live within easy range of Hopper's house on Cape Cod, in Truro, where he painted many of his iconic landscapes...

Would look forward to seeing your selections and outtakes very much.

I can't say I have anything specific in mind for a decent Hopper-esque shot … but I'd love to be challenged to make one =D.

The NYC people, too, can do Hopper-on-location, perhaps his most recognizable images are urban scenes... Anyone who lives in a large city can find Hopperesque interplays of light if they look.

Maybe "Hopper-esque?" I love Edward Hopper, but good or bad, there have already been a glut of homages and parodies of his work (just Google Nighthawks & Parody, for example). And it could be crazy-hard to do a photo imitating a specific painting of his.

Btw, if you've ever seen the movie "Pennies from Heaven" with Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters, there are a couple of amazing shots that are tableaus based on specific paintings of his.

And he and his wife spent several summers in northern New England. He did a lovely set of watercolors that might be a great path for some with rolling hills and small farms...

Except for his beach images, which were done on Cape Cod. home court advantage anyone?

Nothing in that requiring, or even suggesting, copying specific paintings. In fact, the description nails it well; Hopper was all about light & shadow and specific sorts of angles to craft his images.

Hehe, thanks Robert. I re-read the description after posting. Was wondering if I should go back in and replace my post with a big ol' "Never mind!" :-D

A couple of flickr groups with what I think, are some quite good examples of a Hopper style. As you may have gathered, I rather like Rinac's suggestion :)

One of my favorite less popular entries. (I chose to mention Helnwin because the title worked better).

Going to bump this one as rollover is tonight and it would be nice to have a non-stock image challenge (I know minimalism fits that, but let's continue......)
