I want to have the option to use AA batteries if I need to and it would be nice to have a grip on my D-80. Nikon's grip, the MB-D80, is twice as expensive as an imitation by Zeikos (ZE-NBG90).

I often avoid imitation brands for fear of poor quality, but many reviewers rave about how how well built the imitation is and that you can't tell the difference. I trust DPCers more than anonymous reviewers, so I was wondering if any of you have had experience with Zeikos. Thanks

My D70s and D200 both have an adaptor that came with them that allows the use of AA batteries. A Nikon battery grip saved my D200 when I fell coming out of a barn. And it still works after an impact with a concrete stoop. I know you're not supposed to drop 'em on concrete, but I can speak for the toughness of the Nikon battery grip.

Mine on the D300 is a beast too. Thing was trundling about in the hull of a tiny ship in rough seas and just has some scrapes. I think my grip has taken five times the abuse of my camera even though I've only had it about a fifth the time, still looks nearly new. Solid stuff.
I did the same as you though... I was thinking "hmmm... Nikon's is SOOOOOOOOOOOO much more expensive..." but really I've found that even dumb things (rear lens caps for lenses) that are made by Nikon work twice as well as off brand.

I had generic grips on my Canon 300D, 30d's and Pentax K100D, K200D and 20D. However, I now have Nikon grips on the D300 and D90, although I do still use generic batteries without any problems. Never had any issues with the generics tho.

By the way, anyone in UK want to buy a D90 with grip?
