After having looked at every single photograph in Laurie Bartley’s portfolio I was left speechless. I am constantly surfing the web looking for new fashion photographers, or at least new to me, looking for inspiration. Laurie is able to take a natural looking scene, for instance like the featured photograph above taken place at a grocery store, and make it look so much cooler then what it is.

There is a cinematic quality to the photographs that feels like each photo is a still from a movie. Bartley has the ability to light a scene so naturally that the ambience is not lost but the subject still pops out of the scene. Brilliant work. Check out: //www.lauriebartley.com/

Parsed the link. Some nice work there....kind of a gritty/urban feel.

Having looked at only a couple. He doesn't light these at all. There is no fill and you don't see any catchlights. The photog is just choosing interesting locations where the ambient light from all directions.

Still very creative.

That's true of some of the shots, but I've looked at quite a few of them and there's some very interesting lighting being employed by the photographer in many of the shots.

Very creative, composition is nice, subject matter is great, everything works perfect. But as mentioned before, the photos are dull with little contrast and light. I'm not so sure I like that.

I LOVE his work. very nice models used with VERY creative way. I think photography is NOT all about lights or what kind of lens you have, it's all about imagination. That's what this guy is doing.

my 2 cents.

I love his pictures, they are very creative, each composition is very well though out. I would love to see the same thing done with ordinary people, not what we consider "good looking", with perfect bodies and perfect faces. Would they still have the same impact? It's the same thing when I see super cool architectural photos and I see that the house or whatever it is is just super duper nice. What if it was just a regular crappy triple decker where middle class people live.
I also like how his website is set up. Do you guys think it's flash or just java?
