Just wanted to wish everyone the very best for the holidays this year. This is DPChallenge's first Christmas, and we've got plenty to be thankful for.

As a small gift to you, we're offering new memberships at 10% off starting now through the 26th. To get your discount, simply enter the code DPC-HOLIDAYS when you register or upgrade your account.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and all the others!

Hey I paid the full amount, now I want my 10 % too. Lol. I think it's a great idea. Now I don't want to hear any current members whining about new members getting a discount. There, I said it.

Merry Crhistmas to all of you DPCers and families.

Joyeux Noël et Bonne Année.

Hey, I feel cheated. :) I sent in my $25 at 8:33 this morning, 2 hours and 10 minutes before your post. Oh well, Merry Christmas!

Disregard below question.

Just Curious, How long does it take before the upgrade in status becomes effective??

I don't have access to Paypal - for some strange reason they won't register South Africans, though I know people here who have been members for quite a while. How can I pay to join?

I just joined. I feel so included now.

Now how do I get some Oakleys on my avatar?

Oops, I just reread this and it doesn't sound right. What I meant is how else can I pay dpchallenge, not Paypal?

Gina,

If all you want to do is pay with your credit card, you shouldn't have to register with them.

Terry, I've tried paying for an eBay purchase through Paypal and it gave a whole list of countries to select from. As South Africa wasn't there, I didn't make a selection. It would not let me proceed. I've tried e-mailing them, but didn't get a satisfactory response.

What Terry is saying is that for dpc payment you do not neccessarily have to pay through paypal. You can pay through normal credit card.

Sorry, but I WILL NOT send any credit info over internet.

I joined too soon, I should have waited in order to defer the excess expenses of PayPal from Canada. Not too fair, I think!

Hey guys... We're definitely sorry about the countries PayPal doesn't work with. If anyone's interested at all in joining but can't or don't want to pay with credit card, just drop us a quick e-mail using the 'contact us' page, and we'll send you back instructions for sending check or money order asap. When we get a PO Box, we'll post the address on the site. That work? :)

I think that you missed the main point. An extra discount and PayPal are two negative hits for new entrants to your membership all in the first 2-3 weeks of your new billing strategy. I feel that it is more of a marketing mistake then a cost burden issue.

A cheque or money order from over a border has other implications and costs to it, for both you and the sender. Often, USA-based banks charge (you) hefty premiums and take several weeks to clear this sort of cheque, even from a friendly country like Canada. So, I would not be too quick to offer it to your users. You should consult your bank to understand what it will cost you and Langdon. In the end, it will most likely not be worth it for you or the member. I believe that they will charge you about a $12.00 service fee to clear a foreign cheque, as has been the case in my previous dealings of this sort with other vendors in your area. Two weeks is typically the minimum clearing time frame. Money orders cost money for the sender too. Then again, you will quickly discover that there is a major FX issue for you too.

Hello!
Is possible to pay you by transfer money?
Happy New Year

I have dealt with ebay a lot. I have recieved international money orders from international customers. I have never had a problem cashing an international money order at any bank or credit union. Just a thought.

I did some more research and it turns out she's right, you can't pay from South Africa via PayPal, even with a credit card.

I've never understood this. Over a secure connection, it's exponentially safer than handing it to a waiter or retail clerk.

In any case, I'm not sure what your purpose is of bringing this up... you're in the US so could pay by PayPal even without using a credit card.

What do you mean when you say that PayPal does not need a credit card? That was the only way I could use PayPal, which is why I am confused. Why could DPC not clear their own transactions? The cost to DPC would be the same, right?

PayPal can accept "deposits" from the checking account(s) to which it is (usually) linked. It takes about 3-5 days to make the interbank transfer, whereas funding with credit card is almost immediate(?).

DPC can get a business banking account, merchant accounts with VISA/MC, and charge $35/year...

I wonder if this option is not available to all PayPal users, especially if they are outside of the USA. I do not recall it to be an option for my registration from Canada. Thank you for the clarification, I understand better now what was meant in the previous comment.
