I got the keys to my new place yesterday!! I plan a late jan/early feb opening date.

I am excited, nervous, scared all the same time!

For those of you that have public studios, do you also maintain a website? I dont plan to do online proofing so not sure if I need to set my website back up, but I plan to keep my blog current and have a FB page as well. when you type essick photography you get both right away, although as of right now I havent updated my blog in a while.

I have been doing shoots from my home, but since I dont want strangers in my home I have been really limited. Now I can market more aggresively.

I have a marketing plan in place that I plan to start executing next month. I am also teaming up with a local hair salon owner to do a make over contest to drive business to my FB page as well.

I live in a smaller town, so I cant expect to price like the bigger towns, but I am pricing very comparable to the only other photographer in town.

any words of wisdom?!?! :)

do you want pictures of the studio?!!? :)

My power will be turned on weds, so I will get over there and take some.

I have a nice little area in the back that has a bathroom and can be used as a changing room, make up counter..etc... separate office space.

I plan to use ProSelect software for my client proofing as well. I will schedule appts to come back a week after the photo shoot to proof and purchase.

I'm not exactly flush with wisdom, but how about...

1. Work hard AND smart.

2. Try to be frugal with expenses. Resist the urge to buy all the cool new gear you're going to want for your new studio. On the other hand, some new gear might be a smart investment. Spend some time thinking before you buy anything.

3. You should already have a good business plan. Revisit it occasionally to see if it needs revising.

4. Don't expect success to come overnight. It usually takes a lot of time and effort to make a small business profitable.

5. Persevere. You can't succeed if you quit.

6. Take good photos. :)

Congratulations on your new studio and good luck!
