Ok, here's an odd request for ya! :)

As many of you know, I shoot Steelers games for my old hometown newspaper. And now we're just one win away from going to the Big Dance in Dallas!

I'm wondering if there are any DPC folks who live in that general vicinity (say, within an hour) who wouldn't mind having a fellow DPC'er crash on their floor for a couple nights if a series of small miracles fall into place between now and then, and I'm able to shoot the game?

In the fairly unlikely event that I'd get to go, I'd be attempting to make the trip as cheaply as humanly possible, considering I just got back from a vacation to Florida a couple weeks ago and I need to make a good case to my wife that she should allow me to make this journey :)

Like I said, there are numerous hurdles between me and this trip. The Steelers have to win on Sunday against the Jets, and I need to get credentials approved by the NFL. I have applied, but who knows if I'll be able to get in, considering I shoot for a small newspaper. (I did get to go to Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, though, so I'm sorta kinda a teeny bit optimistic.)

Lastly, of course, the biggest stumbling block is spousal approval. Like I said, I would want to make this trip as inexpensively as possible, and I'm sure you know that rooms anywhere near Dallas are going for $300+ per night at that time.

Anyway... if anyone is willing, it would be a lot of fun to meet some new folks and have some fun together! Initially, I'll turn away offers by known axe murderers, but I may be open to that if I get desperate...

I don't think Ellen would have any problem if I offered you our spare bedroom for a couple of nights. We are about 20-30 minutes from the stadium in good traffic. (that probably translates to several hours on Superbowl weekend!)

I did that before, and I'd do it again if need be! I thought it would be fun to go to a Steelers/Jaguars game in Jacksonville a few years back. I camped out in my car at the FL Welcome Center on a night that turned out to be a lot colder than I was expecting for the Sunshine State. But it was fun, and cheap.

It's not that I'm destitute or anything... but if I'm going to do an adventure like this without the rest of my family, I just feel like I should do it as cheaply as possible. I've made a few solo trips very inexpensively before!

Yeah, I'm showing up, but I'm gonna stay at least aloof enough to not give you a firm date... :) But it will be within a few days of Alan's visit one way or the other.

Thanks so much!

You know, it would be fun someday to take a cross-country trip, spending each night at a different DPC'ers house along the way. Wouldn't that make for an interesting book of images?

I've been lucky enough to meet many folks from this site, and their friendship and generosity has always been a great inspiration!

I have the great fortune to have a daughter who is taking me to the game!! Now I have to decide what lenses to bring. Security will let me in with 12"x12" bag so thinking one long lens (300 mm) one wide angle, and 1.4 50 mm. Appreciate any suggestions (don't know where seats are yet). And if there is a gtg count me in!
Thanks

Ha....Yes you will. You will be driving Alan to and from the game. Get yourself a 12v tv so you can at least watch the game.:)

Better check with the stadium guidelines for cameras. It would suck to go there with some nice gear just to walk back to the car to put it away.

Hahaha... not an issue, as I'll be driving to Dallas :)

NFL approval, check... spousal approval, check... I'm on my way next week!

Just wanted to extend a BIG, Texas-sized thank you to Yo_Spiff and cowtownmom for their very generous hospitality these last couple days! It has been a lot of fun meeting some more extended members of the DPC Family... which also included a great visit with coryboehne!

Now there's only one thing left to say... Go Steelers!!!
