...cause we're going there from July 7 to 12 and possibly could need some tips for photo ops...

There is lots to see and photograph. Here, for starters, are a few ideas based on memories from my youth: Angelsey, Port Maddock, Snowdonia, llyn crafnant (Llyn is Welsh for Lake). I would Google these for more specific suggestions.

An aside: I am "from" North Wales in the ancestral sense, and the place still holds many happy memories for me. My parents used to take us back there each Easter school holidays and we'd walk the hills. Fast forward to 2006 when my younger sister who now lives in Australia and I now living in the US met up in the UK and went back to North Wales. With the aid of a family tree my father had reconstructed before he died, and the very old ordnance survey map my brother still had showing my father's annotations, we found the chapel in Angelsey where several ancestors were buried. The oldest there being a John Rowlands who lived a good long life from 1720-1815. We stayed in Port Maddock, and found it worked well as a hub for the places we wanted to visit. Our visit was in March (outside the holiday period) so it wasn't an issue but be warned, I think it can all get pretty congested at times.

Enjoy the trip and I look forward to seeing your photos.

PS. Don't be surprised to hear many locals talking in Welsh. My impression is that there has been a resurgence in recent years, but there is still plenty of English spoken although with a strong (lovely lyrical sounding) Welsh accent in many cases.

Yes, I live in Llandudno on the North Wales coast, the biggest resort in North Wales.
There are loads of photo ops around here.Snowdonia is the main mountain area ,with perhaps surprisingly Mount Snowdon as the highest peak.
Anglesey is very flat but does have some nice coast.
Best to Google it really as me listing places is not really that much help.
It rains a fair bit and is very run down in parts, but I am sure you wil not be stck for photo subjects.
If you want to know anything specific then do let me know.
Have a good time.
All the Best
Neil.

So you're planning a year in advance, or you have a time machine? ;)

I think you should do the tourist thing and go to Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

I went to Caernarfon Castle a few years ago, which was worth a vist.

LOL, July of course. I desperately need that vacation.

There's a funicular train up Snowdon, so if you have tired old legs you can ride up and walk down. There are then a choice of routes to go down again. My school had enterprisingly acquired and converted a miners' hut in Snowdonia, near Llanberis, which is how I know about all this. It's very beautiful and rugged and of course, steeped in history.

I think you would also like Portmeirion - this place is incredibly photogenic, both the village and the coast. Portmeirion It's not too long a drive from Llandudno (about 60 km), although the roads are slow. (I assume you will have a car?). It's a nice drive across the mountains preferably going via Betws-y-Coed and Blaeneau Ffestiniog - there is a steam railway here that takes you to Porthmadog.

As Kevin mentioned, Caenarfon Castle is also well worth a visit. Probably add Conwy to that too (castle at least).

It's a very lovely part of the British Isles.

My name comes from north Wales. ;-Þ
I can't remember the route we talk, but I was drievn through there by my brother on the way to Ireland in 1984, and I was bowled over buy the stunning-ness of the scenery.
There are several little steam trains that are fun to ride.

I live in Cheshire which borders North Wales, as others have mentioned above there's loads of nice scenery in the area. Llandudno itself is very nice as is Snowdon and all the countryside around there. Apart from the funicular up Snowdon, there are several other steam trains in the area. The waterfall at Betwys-y-coed, Llangollen, Conwy Castle, Lake Vrynwy - they're all really nice and full of photo ops. Anglesey has several deserted beaches, I went the other day and was the only one on the beach!

In Llandudno itself you need to go up the Great Orme (you can take a cable car or a tram), there's nice views from the top. Also, if you like gardens/plants, visit Bodnant Garden, a National Trust property that has some beautiful, colourful flowerbeds and water features.

If you are travelling further afield, Chester is worth a visit, with it's Roman walls and remains and beautiful old timbered buildings.

I hope you have a lovely visit :)

Dang, now I fear we won't have enough time to even visit half of that :)
