Hey folks,

Very exciting times for me next week. I am saying goodbye to my trusty 450D and hoping to pick up a Canon 5d Mk2. Here is the dilemma though. Before I realised I was able to afford a 5D Mk2(Second hand) I had my heart set on a 1Ds mk2 (Second hand).

If I get the 5d Mk2 then I can't afford to replace the wide angle (APS-C)lens right away for another wide angle suitable for a full frame sensor. However, I could get a 1Ds Mk2 and a wide angle for my money.

I think I have made my mind up but wanted to put it out there for opinions and a little discussion to see if there is anything I might be missing or over-looking.

Yep, no doubt about it, you are going to be lacking in WA once you go FF. I'm not too familiar with what current used prices are on the 1Ds MkII, but I'm really doubting that you'd gain enough to get decent WA glass in the bargain. One thing to remember, it's a lot harder to produce a lens that is truly wide, and covers the 35mm sensor. Inexpensive options are all pretty much optical compromises. Heck even the expensive options are! What are you thinking for WA? Right now you have a 10-24, so it seems like you'd be looking for, perhaps, a 17-40 or 16-35?

I would probably go for a 16-35. The WA has been stuck on my 450D for so long now. I'll only be without one for a month or so but still....I will miss it.
