Generally, I like them. Nice looking model and most of the pictures are sharp. The second photo has a very distracting background and the weeds in the foreground are distracting as well. A different composition might have helped it.

I agree with rodney, that's the first thing I noticed. In the third image, the background is also a bit distracting.

Some other observations:
* Her facial expression seems like it could be more serious. Maybe this is personal taste, but it doesn't feel as "in the moment" with a big smile (especially in #1)

* Her string grip is all wrong. Most people won't notice this, but anybody into archery should pick it out in a second. Here's a guide to proper grip: //www.ucd.ie/archery/shoot.html#Drawing_Hand

* Did you notice the house is falling over in the first shot? :)

I like them with the first being the best in my opinion.I noticed that the house is falling but thought maybe you intended that.
Maybe a crop to put model off centre.
Not so keen on the expression on the last shot.

The pictures are technically sound, but the model looks uncomfortable with 'pretending' to be an archer and that shows in her stance and her face :)

I really like the 2nd and 3rd photo, mainly because as was mentioned she doesn't look natural in the role she has been cast in. Excellent technical work, but I would switch up the model and try again. Of course, this is when you tell me the lady in the pictures is a gold medalist archer. . .but, it just seems a bit out of touch. I would also look at maybe re-composing the image with more space in front of the bow on the second one. . .just thoughts.

with the first shot, her arm is level or straight. The building behind her is falling down it really old and is super mossy. Talking about the model, she hadnt shot or held a bow before the shoot. so i quickly showed her how it should be held, but she didn't quite grasp it. (oh well) Also, in the first shot, i had her yell, and i know it didn't really come across all that well. My mom thought she was laughing. nope, she is 'yelling'.

For the last picture, i hadn't even noticed the yellow tag on the string until someone had pointed it out. as for the grain on her skin? i have no idea why or how it got to be like that. She is one of the few who i want to photograph and who is willing most of the time. The day was REALLY overcast and cloudy and dark. the ISO was at 200 which shouldn't show grain. We had 20-30 min to shoot, and yes, she is worried about what she looks like anyways, with out being on the side of the rode.

This location was on the side of the road (with a traffic jam) and the freeway yards away.

its all very marshy and the grass is very tall now. vines are climbing up the house and everything is dead or weighed down by the rain. Its a really cool location actually.. atleast imo..

Sofia, to 'sell' the image, your 'model' should hold the bowstring with two fingers, not clamped in her fist. And in the last photo, her eyes should have a 'thousand yard stare' focused on a target she's aiming to hit. It looks as if she's focusing on the tip of the arrow. I agree she looks ill at ease with the weapon - which seems too small for her. If it were larger, her drawing hand could be closer to her ear which would also sell the image more. The photography is technically fine. It's the model's pose and the props that are the main issue for me.

We need to get you guys back to Seattle for a GTG.

Scooter,

I think #3 is your strongest image in my opinion, and forgive me for not seeing #1 (another popular one in this thread it seems) correctly on this crappy office monitor, but the entire image appears very flat. There is no depth between the subject, the weeds, and the enormous house, so you only have one subject and that subject is a photograph with no depth! haha.

#3 works for me because I like the portrait orientation, the light foreground accents made by the weeds, and the sincerity she has on her face. It does have some flaws, one I would not know about, but has been clarified is the way she is holding the drawstring. I think a different perspective may have worked better, and you tried that in the final shot you have here, but that one is jacked up in other areas haha. Lastly, the background is just too present in this shot. That big billboard back there for Jimmy Pete's Fried Chicken or whatever it might be sort of distract from the setting that you are trying to achieve.

I think you have a good idea, but you should try to execute it again and take these comments that have been made into account.
