The official schedule has been released for the Spring bird walks in Rocky Mountain National Park. I'll be serving as a volunteer bird walk leader on Fridays and Sundays between April 1 and June 15, 2012.... 8:00 am until 9:30 am. We start at the West Alluvial Fan parking lot. No reservation needed. Bring binocs and a bird field guide. I would love to have some DPC members join in my birding hikes in the park. I spend some time on each walk offering tips on wildlife photography.

Unfortunately we already had our Colorado trip this year, and you weren't in residence :-( Nor were the birds, for that matter :-) But I'm with you in spirit; while you're hiking the trails we'll be navigating the estuaries...

Thanks for the comments. Sooner or later, you'll all have a chance to visit the mountains. I'll probably do the birding volunteer thing for many years.

I remember my first naturalist guided birding walk in RMNO at Cup Lake Trailhead in July 1967. Still birding, but haven't been to RMNP in years, Good luck and may many Goshawks fly by gathering Richardson's ground squirrels while your group is watching. Van

Thanks, Van. The park posted hiker warnings on the Storm Pass Trail last summer because of a very aggressive Northern Goshawk. The nest was right along the trail and the parents would take off hat, scarf and scalp of any hiker coming close by. Hope you'll be able to one day participate in one of my birding hikes.

Yes those agrssive nesting Goshawks. I gave directions to a nest near the Y-Camp in the early 80s and the goshawk took my friends hat off. He was beginning birder and head lawyer for National Wildlife Federation, it broke him in well ;).
