I'm traveling to New York next month for a week with my wife. I would really like to take some time for some good street photography, and also some cityscapes. Any pointers on some really good places and/or techniques for those?

Thanks in advance,

Scott

+1-- The subway is always very interesting for street photography too. Here's some inspiration for cityscapes.

I live like 29 minutes away so i don't know if my perspective is a bit weird on this.

One of my favorite locations to shoot is Roosevelt Island. Theres a hidden little tram that takes you along side the bridge via a vista of the waters, buildings, and the bridges that is unmatched. Get off at the island, move back, shoot shooot shoot, and back on the tram to do your other things in the City. The whole thing will take you..30 minutes, but its a nice area to check out. a seperate quiet area within NYC almost.

True, But at times it's just too easy. There is so much the city has too offer.

You can head down to Chinatown for some candid fun. Roosevelt Island is great. If it is your first time to NYC, I do recommend heading up to either the observation deck of the Empire State Building or to the Top of The Rock (Rockefeller center).

There really is so much to do shoot. Bring extra cards. I had a biz event 2 weeks ago in the Marriot times sq. Within about 45 minutes, I took about 300 candids. Most of them came out pretty good.

St Patrick Cathedral

Central Park Zoo - an awesome bargain for $12

I went to Roosevelt Island last week and only went to the lighthouse (that was the reason I went over). Maybe I should have spent more time on the island?

Well on the complete other side of the island they are doing some renovation/construction.. If you (at your own risk) hop the fence, there are many creative night shots you can do with the spot lights they have set up.

I've gotten decent night shots from the Hyatt over in Jersey City as well. A quick PATH train ride over and it drops you right there.
