As it looks right now, I am going to Maine with my parents and my uncle in mid July.

I have been once and LOVED it. I can't wait to go!

So while I am out there, is anyone else close by? Chances are we will hit Bar Harbor as a major stopping point during our stay. We are leaving the 14th of July and on our way up there we will be stopping to see my brother graduate from his schooling that he received from the Army to get into his new job. After that we will head up there and camp out there for a week or two.

P.s. - Any suggestions on places we should go? We like hikes, fishing, and site seeing (and of course photography).

:)

What are the chances you'll still be there at the beginning of August?

Zero... :/

We leave for Indiana right after that to see my grandfather at the family reunion. (I have yet to meet everyone on my dad's side so I'm excited for that too).

...You could assume that, but you would be wrong :O)

Hint, watch out for moose... the ratio of accidents involving moose in Maine is unbelievable.

You will love Maine... all kinds of wonderful things to photograph.

I am the one who likes to fish in the family and being in FL I've always liked bass fishing. I am not entirely sure what sort of fish Maine is popular for except cod. And I don't really know much about salt water fishing. Lol.

For hiking, day hikes are normally what we do and being that my mom is going that is what we will be limited to being that she has some health issues with her foot hindering her from any major hiking trips.

I do remember from last time that the moose there are not too afraid of people. It was about 5 or 6 years ago when I went up there and that is something that I remember very well. Lol.

Yes, sometime around the first week, but I don't have an exact date yet.

I just spent a week in Maine with my father and oldest daughter a couple weeks ago. We were in New Harbor -- I think it is a couple hours south of Bar Harbor. So the places I went may be a bit far away. My Ansel Adams and Free Study entries were at Pemiquid Point -- the lighthouse on the Maine quarter.

My favorite day there I took a ferry to Monhegan Island. Monhegan is a small rocky island 10 miles off the coast that has paved roads. It has about 60 year round inhabitants – they appeared to be mostly artists and lobstermen. Some beautiful trails along the cliffs. Some would be too steep for your mom. These don't do the island justice, but hopefully give you a sense it it.

Have a great time, Marco.

If you have an opportunity to travel through the state, Mt. Katahdin and South Turner Mt are wonderful hikes, though not easy. The town of Millinocket is worth a visit.
