I'm considering the sale of my 1Dm4. I like the idea of a full-frame sensor and being able to take the battery pack off for light travel. Those are just a few of the reasons. There are video advantages that I won't go into. The loss of the 10 FPS will suck...but I'm not really using it that much. I wondering how ISO and other technical info stacks up. On another forum, I was sorta told NOT to 'downgrade' my camera.

What do you think? I could probably sell it, get a 5Dm3 and put the rest towards a lens like the Tamaron 24-70 with VR.

Sometimes...I wish this weren't my hobby of choice...it's so expensive at times. Then, I pick up my camera and lenses and love it to death!

You could always take up Photography, rather than the hobby of buying and selling equipment that you seem to have adopted !

No experience with either of the above, but do have the mk2. I'm coming from a 40D so everything is better. But in addition to full frame, I'm finding looking through the viewfinder alone, is like looking through a huge picture window. Mega difference.

I know the boring default answer you probably always get is "it depends on what you're using it for". Most would say the mk4 has the advantage in frame rate, buffer size, and build quality and a few little things like battery life and a built-in battery grip... while the 5Dmk3 has the advantage in IQ (although it's almost a tie), AF, ISO range and noise performance, as well as a few little things like screen resolution, viewfinder size (as pointed out earlier), and it's lighter.

I didn't mention video since we're on a photography website, and the crop sensor could be either an advantage (for say sports or wildlife photography) or a disadvantage (for anything wider).

I've shot with both and for me if your question is "which one is it easier to take good pictures with?" it's the 5mk3 in more situations.

That's a big move. There are several websites that will allow you to compare images taken with both cameras under the same settings to judge IQ and high ISO noise. A Sigma 12-24 or Rokinon 14mm would get you most of the FF benefit, and you could buy a Rebel or even rent a camera for travel. Maybe rent a 5D3 for a day or two and decide if it's worth the switch?

Why did you originally buy the 1d? Was it for the 10fps for say sports or was it just because it's the best! One canon make

If it was for a specific reason how does that stack up against the 5d3

I'm a gear head but man you take it into a whole new league, I got a used mk2 this morning and well chuffed with it.

How much you want for it?

Long story short: I was a Nikon Fanboy. I had a D700 with tons of glass. Then I got into video. I bought a 7D with some glass. Was carrying around 2 cameras. Sold it all because I wanted the ISO equivalent or better that the D700 had but with the video system that Canon has. Canon still kicks butt in the video department. I know that there aren't many people on here interested in the video aspect and that this is a 'stills camera' but it played into my purchase.

So, going from carrying 2 cameras to 1, having that nice high ISO, 24fps video (And 60fps @ 720p), the build quality, the 10 fps burst for when I was doing weddings or sports (Not as often as I would like) just to name a few. I also was suspecting that I would eventually get myself a nice telephoto lens like the 28-300 with a converter. From what I understood, only the 1D series' bodies can AF at anything past 5.6f. Could be wrong here.

As for an asking price, since I have it with EVERYTHING unopened (Except the box) and only a slight scratch on the top, I'd be asking for approx 4500USD (That's in Japan for the Japanese market). For some reason, even though these are made in Japan, they sell for more. I was told by the local camera shop (A guy I buy and sell through) to ask between 4000 to 4500.

A wedding photographer here bought 5 1Dx bodies. He said (I think I mentioned this before) that if you trade in any of the 1 series cameras, doesn't even have to be working, that they'll sell you the 1Dx for 4000USD. It's through the Canon Professionals program. He told me that if by the end of the year I wanted to get one I should look into finding a cheap 1D series camera and he'll hook me up.
