I don't know about you, but I'm really tired of unsolicited phone calls. The Do Not Call registry is a joke, and it's even worse during an election cycle. I did stumble across one tip that I'm going to be trying out. Simply download the wave file here (it's from the Phone Recording Archive) and load it onto your phone's messaging system. Supposedly when the robodialer hears the tones it will kick your number out of circulation (for them). You might want to edit the message part to let real people know what is going on. ;-)

and that's your tip of the day :D

The only way telemarketing calls will end is if the companies paying for them conclude that there is no money to be made at it. Even if they only sell to a fraction of a percent, that is enough to keep them at it. So, somebody must be buying for them to keep hammering us.

Same with spam.

Google voice does this too. Mark a phone call as spam and it will disgiuse your number as disconnected.

But yes the do not call is a joke. I get telemarketer calls on my cell phone, even after I told them to remove me. From what I gather calling cellphones is not even allowed.

First rule, never say Hello more than once, if it's someone you know they will start talking, if it's a robot, then you will hear silence, hang up. Simple, but it works most of the time.

What I like to do is, after the telemarketer/recording starts to speak, I put the phone down and walk away.

It wastes the callers time and money tying up the line, and maybe they will think twice before dialing my number again.

Overall the "Do Not Call" registry has worked well for me.

We used to get many calls, sometimes multiple calls each evening, now with the exception of local politicians and the NRA (for some unknown reason) the phone is pretty quiet.

I tend to go with the, "You sound cute, so... What are you wearing". If that doesn't do it, a follow up of, "So, do you ever like to talk dirty on the phone?", seals the deal. They don't ever seem to call back, I don't know why...

I know where you're coming from. Unsolicited calls are indeed annoying.

Well, thanks for your tip. I'll check on that right now. It's become my habit to annoy these callers whenever they call and any new idea is very much welcome.

And by the way, just in case you run out of prank tips, there are several choices you can find at this consumer complaint site called CALLERCENTER. Just look for the link which says Top 14 Ways To Annoy Telemarketers' on the left-hand side of the homepage. Click on it and have fun.

That's where I get my pranks, too. And trust me, these pranks are far more effective than being on the DNC. One call from telemarketers and then they're gone.

+1 Never done that before but I can guarantee you, I am going to try it!

Never did anything like that on the phone, but I did have some holy rollers come by the house on several occasions. Once I asked them if they saved fallen women to which they answered yes. "Great I said, can you save me a few for the weekend?"

They have never been back.
