But not every work of art is created to make money. Van Gogh sold one painting in his lifetime, yet he painted all the time. You could hardly say he had deep pockets.

In any event, the photographs are not the real artwork here anyway. It's the act itself, and, I suppose the resulting video/images and perhaps the images from the "thieves" that would comprise the final work, though it's hard to precisely divine his exact intent.
