So looking at the comments and the score do people in a visual medium like photography not use their eyes, or of they need smacked in their face looking at the other entries, and because I didn't have a sign filling 20% of my image they voted it down.

There are 5 chevron signs you can see and a 6 the side of, even looking on my iPhone I can see them on a 2inch x 1.4 inch size, yes I know they are there but still.

It's like some people want any excuse to mark down, thank you to the ppl who took their time and voted and commented and actually looked at the image you give faith not to go on a jay a d silent bob style vendetta :) haha

Well it was a case of "spot the road signs" but they were there, so in terms of the challenge description you certainly met the challenge. Great shot.

My guess is they were voting fast, it took me a miute to see them after I clicked on the image

I gave you a 7, not sure if I voted you down, it is what it is, pretty good that is!!
01/30/2013 02:16:35 AM · #6
you are complaining too harshly

it's not as if your road signs are standing out or a key component in your image.
They are hard to notice as mentioned by many voter during the voting.
They voted mainly for the warm feeling the sun is giving.

still complain if you have too but please watch your words

Maybe you are reading something else but this is far from harsh and I'm biting my tongue a lot, plus maybe you don't understand sarcasm if English isn't your first language?

The description said

Description
It's been awhile, a throwback to the first challenge ever -- include a road sign in your photo!

No major element mentioned like in some challenges.....

You can see the signs on your iPhone because you know they are there! Bus as many others it took me some time to spot the signs as they are blending in with the background. I agree you should find them when you have a close (and maybe longer) look, but you know part of the voters vote on their first impression of the image and I think you, as the photographer, should take that into account when submitting.
BTW. I gave you a 7, because I really liked the image and its warm colours (except the blue top-left corner) and I found the image very DMC.

I doubt, given the evidence, that you were voted harshly simply because the road signs are difficult to see. A 5.9 is a very decent score for an image of this type

Just stop whining. You are here for long enough to know there are some speed voters and some very literal voters and you should also have known not all the others just vote for the beauty of the image or technical excellence but at least take the DEGREE of meeting challenge into account (there are more nuances than sign/no sign).

Also agree with prashant, your language could be a little less harsh and even though my english is at least as good as yours I can't see sarcasm in your post, just sour grapes.

I can't see any sarcasm in the original post either to be honest. Either way, it's a 5.9, top 15 photograph and i can't really see how it would have been voted down. Most people just liked 13 other photographs better than this one is all.

The fact that the signs are hard to see is what I love about this one, it's such a shame the DNMC police clearly voted it down but hopefully some of them see this thread and learn that next time they need to take a better look before they give it the DNMC smack down.

Wow...

To give a different point of view -- even when you said there were 6 road signs, I didn't see them. To be fair, my eyes aren't the best -- that's why I ask for help looking for grain, haloing, etc.

But I think the biggest problem was that I was looking for American road signs. Our curves are marked in bright yellow, road signs are green, brown, occasionally blue, etc. So when scanning the picture for road signs, I thought I knew that for which I was looking. Never expected black and white signs. The blended in so beautifully, and they were not familiar, so they were easy to miss.

I didn't end up voting on the challenge (I thought I had, I guess I just looked a couple of times and forgot to actually go back and do the voting), so I would hope that I would have looked further, but it might give a little insight as to why people didn't see them -- even if they did look a little closer.

I'm not whining so much as attempting to make people think about voting a little more thoroughly, and it's frustrating to be told you don't meet a challenge when you've gone out to shoot it, and if we are going to get pedantic about it. The 6th place image is not a road sign but a river sign, yeah I liked it and gave it a 7.

My point is that people should take a little longer and look at the images they vote on, admire, criticise spot the nuisances not just fly through in an attempt to get voting done ASAP.

I've learnt as well that editing and selecting images on a 27" screen can translate badly when resized to 800px

one thing i'm not clear on.. do you prefer red or white?

:P

So we need some voter speed humps.

I don't see how you think this was voted down. 5.9x is a good score. It outscored a lot of shots with "in your face" signs.

I guess so, but I look at the final score and he still did well.

Why me?

edit - I was going to let my membership expire in a month and walk quietly into the sunset. Comments like that are going to force me to re-up and stick around for another year.

It's hard to tell because I have many fans out there. It's all good.
