You can borrow my cave. I'm out of hibernation until next November :-)

I heard that they set up shop Tucson Congresswoman Gifford and others were shot... I guess sensitivity reigns supreme in some quarters!

People are idiots. Nothing we can do about that one through legislation.

And for the record, while I'm pretty much totally on the opposite side of the fence from most DPC'ers on this issue, even I think this one's kinda stupid.

Although - to be fair - I would probably support it if they first had to pass a stringent background check and had to attain a reasonable proficiency before being provided with the weapons.

But to give folks guns, and not provide reasonable training first is simply asking for problems. sigh.

Say, maybe the DMV could install an indoor range and test people like they do for a driver's license -- I be lots of people would like to shoot off a few rounds while waiting to register their car ... ;-)

Talk about ideas that could go south faster than a Canada goose.

Yes, I realize that providing people waiting at the DMV with guns is inconducive to the orderly conduct of business ...

FWIW there was a Canada Goose idea which literally went South ... people in California sheltering geese during a period in which they were endangered has resulted in a population of geese with no instinct to fly north in the Summer -- they just hang out here year-round (keeping the playing fields "well-fertilized"), and are no longer Canadian Canada Geese ...

Come on people...All they are trying to do is allow citizens a way to protect themselves in bad areas. They have the right to defend themselves. They will also have to go through the same background checks everyone else has to go through.

Would you advocate giving uneducated drivers cars?

These aren't people who've owned and operated weapons all of their lives, chances are they're more inept than this guy.

I am %100 for education. I do think classes should be required to recieve one of these free weapons, unless military service can be proven

Then at least you and I are in agreement. This seems a piss poor idea without extensive training being a prereq.

Sure, they say they'll teach them the basics, but... That's not really enough.

Wonder if they're providing lawyers too?

Cory I think that gun safety should be taught in school staring at a fairly young age. That way if that indiviual is around guns or purchases one in the fuure, He/she will be ready and know how to act.

Unfortunately, that's on par with teaching religion in schools...

While it's a fine idea, unfortunately, there's no way that would fly. Now, mandatory military/civil service like Germany has, and like Sweden used to have, might well solve that issue - but good luck passing that sort of common sense measure.
