Even though this is a couple years old, I still find it extremely inspirational. This body of work, produced over the course of a year, removes all excuses that "there's nothing going on around me to shoot." When I first saw it, my second thought (after, "WOW!") was, "holy cow! These could have been shot anywhere, from any little crossroad town to any any major city to anywhere in between!" And they could be. Life happens. There's always something to shoot.

The collection won the Virginia Press Association Sweepstakes Award in 2008. Please enjoy the Rites of Life.

Thanks, Skip, that was wonderful. It made me realise that a series of photos around a theme (e.g. Role Reversal) - even though individually they may not be quality, dpc-worthy shots - can be very moving and impactful. Makes me want to try some theme or story.

glad you liked it, andrew! i think it really opens up your options when you approach a situation trying to develop a photo essay, rather than looking for just that one shot. good luck with your efforts!
