This would be a great challenge. I finally have a night off from Little League, softball, and my daughter's soccer so I plan on watching Brief Encounters, which is a film about Gregory Crewdson. Here's a link with a little info about the film Brief encounters. There's some good examples of his work on the link also.
Would be a cool challenge, although I think it would be a tough one. Advanced editing.
BTW, my pick for the top three would be  Tanguera.  Paul. And Jagar |

If you want the spirit of his work, there'd be the barest of editing. All his pre-production work means that his pictures are pretty much SOOC. |

Yes I know, but we have a week and most of us probably don't have the assistants and lighting needed for such a thing. |

| I like his work very much, but Crewdson's photographs can take a week to set up. His sets and are like the sets of a major motion picture, including a large crew. Tough indeed! |

Straight out of the camera?: Not at all. You might think so since Crewdson shoots 8x10 film. However, if you watch the documentary, when talking about post-production, he mentions taking 40-50 exposures of each scene and how they are then scanned for compositing. In one scene, the artist is talking to a retoucher about removing a light fixture, putting in parts of one image into another, moving people from this shot to the next etc. The fact that the camera position is always fixed makes it easier, but it's still done. |
