Ignoring the poor composition (caught this on the fly, so to speak), would something along these lines work for this challenge or is some kind of motion blur expected?

I would say that would be definitely be appropriate. And similarly this one would be too I would imagine:

Uhm I suppose...maybe a little slower on the shutter?

Frankly seeing that the current challenges are Missed Focus, Shoot from Behind your Subject and Animals in Motion, I think there's a conspiracy going on. Anyone seen my tinfoil hat?

wow, I have spent most of my weekends around animals and the one time I'm participating in a photowalk we get animals. *sob*

I'm actually waiting for my cousin to pick me up to go to the zoo. She's been trying for months to get a day off work to go. The problem is it's 94 degrees today and I don't think the animals will be doing anything but sleeping. LOL!

Yes, sounds like a little motion blur is in order here.

Title: "the motion to sleep away the day passed unanimously", then you're good to shoot sleeping animals

I completely disagree. Case in point, Paul's shot. Those dogs are obviously moving without any motion blur.
To vote down based on that would be silly.

Thinking I'll be able to get entries for all the challenges with relative ease. Better take the more energetic of my two cats outside and chase her around :-)

I guess you could be the one moving and we can pretend the motion blur is animal created even if the pose looks suspiciously stationary.

AGAIN?

The sad thing about challenges of this nature is that a great number of people have no appreciation whatsoever as to how difficult it is to capture one of these images.

I had hopes for this one.... and it did not do all that well:

Live and learn I guess.

Yeah, it seems even tougher if your big, sexy, perfectly-lit, tack-sharp BiF photo is a predator that ISN'T carrying any prey. IMNSHO I was robbed of a ribbon - an FS one, no less - 'cause this bird didn't have a fish in its talons.

Oh yeah. And I'm not a member of the DPC Flavour-of-the-Month club.

the problem is that you can shoehorn animals in motion into most challenges but you can't shoehorn anything else into an animals in motion challenge.

Lol....no shoehorns? You must mean a shoehorn in this challenge would be obvious. However, there will be shoehorns.

I know what you mean Susan. I should have entered this one in a free study.

But I entered this one.

So... for this challenge, does it have to be a photo of an animal, while that animal is in motion?

You are thinking of the Real Estate challenge.

I'm so confused... real estate at night?
