Not terribly surprised...

Photoshop and Lightroom - $9.99 a month.

So if you own a suite, and not an individual purchase of Adobe CS3 or higher this deal doesn't apply to you? I think I read that on Terry White's blog. How is that fair? Spend more money on a suite, and you're out of luck?

"This offer is available to customers who own a previous version of Photoshop or Photoshop Extended, version CS3 or later (CS3.x, CS4, CS5.x, or CS6)." If you own Creative Suite 3 or higher, then you also own Photoshop as specified and would be eligible, however it doesn't look like the new plan is on their website yet. The note, "Suites do not qualify" on Terry White's blog does not appear in Adobe's FAQs as far as I can tell.

One site is reporting that it'll launch in a few weeks.

Yes, but they didn't catch on until AFTER I (and probably many of us) upgraded to Lightroom 5 so per that it would cost extra this year.

That is why i stop my-self, right now I am on 4 and if it is really $9.99 then I will wait and not upgrade to 5.

The only problem with this? I actually signed up for, and immediately discarded, the 9.99-for-a-year cloud because my Nik products and some of my other plugins don't seem to work with it. Adobe told me Nik/Google had no plans to develop compatability. Whether or not this is true I do not know, but I wanted out of that commitment before my grace period expired. Or I would have got charged half the contract to drop.

So my question is, can ANYONE who can use the phone (Cory?) track down whether or not Nik and Topaz etc will be compatible with this?

I'm not a fan of Creative Cloud, this paying per month never ends you just keep paying. They can increase the price anytime they want you have no control.

I currently use Elements, but I have been thought about stepping up. I have trouble justifying $20/month but $10 might be rationalized. Of course if I have to first buy a license for CS5 it would take quite a while to break even.

My daughter has an educational license for CS5. I wonder if she can take advantage of the $10/month with an educational license.

That price is much easier to stomach. But I still have a moral objection to indefinitely feed-the-meter software distribution.

Well, the economics are at least a little better... If I upgraded Ps and Lr every two years at $279 total, that's $11 and change per month. So I save (a little) money in the long run. But I am tied to a subscription, and if I quit paying, I lose use of the software. In the end, I will consider this but I am doubting that I will give up my perpetual right to use the software for $1.63 a month in savings and a few interim updates.

You're not giving up anything. You can keep CS6 mounted even when you're clouded with CC. If you leave the cloud you still have 6, and they aren't gonna build any newer Photoshop.

LR5 came free with the 7D (as did Premiere elements)
I finally crawled my way to PS CS6, I see no reason to upgrade for a very long time.

I am enjoying more facilitating the camera & lens than making images with hours of software rendering and digital filters.

Besides, They can keep the cloud system, that kind of thing is not on my 'to do' list.

On the positive side though it may finally of seen an end to piracy and that is a good thing

I am using, both, Nik and Topaz with Photoshop CC. I didn't realize that anybody was having problems with compatibility.

I understand this line of reasoning, but...
For Ps, going back to an old version might not be a huge penalty, especially if your work has been saved using "preserve compatibility". For Lr, however, going back may very well not be feasible, due to incompatibility with newer cameras. In addition, the entire catalog might have to be re-done,and we'd lose our edits. That's a penalty I never want to pay. So I am very cautious about stepping onto the "pernicious perpetual payment platform."

ETA:
If I maintain perpetual licenses by upgrading regularly, and then decide that I no longer wish to upgrade, I am left with the last version I paid for. If I sign up for the cloud service, and later decide no to continue, I am left with the last perpetual version I owned. Big difference in "residual value" but not a big difference in cost over time.

There is one major incompatibility with LR5 and PS CS5 that pushes me towards upgrading...

I can't use the "Edit as Layers" menu command of LR since it brings up PS but no documents. Same for Edit as HDR, etc. The only thing you can do is "Edit" a single photo. TOBAL.

Otherwise, there's nothing in CC that I want beyond CS6. Though $120 a year is getting closer to a price I pay anyway on average with upgrades. I just wish they had done that before I spent $79 (or was it $99) to upgrade to LR5.

Tell me how you got them to mount? I was unable to accomplish this.

I found this video helpful. I use a PC and not a Mac so I had to do a little searching in my program files for my plugin folder.

This makes the math work better for me. But...I upgraded to CS6 and LR5 just last weekend. So I'm good...
