Thanks everyone for the comments and high scores - I have been bubbly all week! The picture also managed to make it onto the top scores for the Canon 10D - I'm really chuffed about that!

For anyone who hasn't been, GO TO YORKSHIRE!!!! It's simply the most amazing country we've experienced yet. Although this pic was my favourite, the location wasn't - we went through the Yorkshire Dales and I couldn't drive more than 20mph due to the beauty of the countryside. Check out some of the other pics I got of the area - www.pbase.com/p_johns/yorkshire.

Erm - Yorkshire is a county by the way! ; )
The dales are stunning and I know what you mean about stopping the car and snapping - it's much like that in the Lake District too - every turn of the head is a photograph. Next time you go to Yorkshire visit Kilburn and Osmotherly where there are some wonderful views and some lovely pub food.

And yes, well done - I don't think I'll be joining you Masters just yet though!

Fair call, but I wasn't referring to Yorkshire being A country, but Yorkshire countryside? Thanks for the tips! I'm doing more trips shortly, so I'll put them on my 'to do' list.

Looking through your p-base collection ... the 'town on the coast in Yorkshire' is Whitby. And if you want to see a mind-bogglingly wonderful selection of photographs of the place, or of anywhere actually, go here: Sutcliffe Gallery

Did you get to visit the gallery while you were there?

Wasn't the Yorkshire Ripper also named Sutcliffe?

Indeed. Peter Sutcliffe, in fact. Frank Meadow lived in the late 19th Century, so fortunately wasn't around to have his name sullied.

Frank Meadow was his real name?? So how did he get stuck with Peter Sutcliffe? I remember reading about the Yorkshire Ripper, but I can't remember what became of him, did they ever catch him?

Edit: Whoops I misread that one Ed. So that guy's name was also Peter Sutcliffe, aha!

You have some wonderful scenes there Philip, I go "up the dales " on a regular basis and have seen many of the views you have there.
Beautiful area of the country.
Fountains Abbey.
near Pately bridge.

Congrats on the ribbon too, stunning picture, I've been there many times and you captured it brilliantly.
Paul.

I live in Yorkshire, and love it. I'm originally from London, where most people think I'm crazy to not live there any more, but it is very beautiful in Yorkshire, and there's plenty of culture. Many of my photos are from Yorkshire:

Yorkshire is on my list of places to visit. I'm a fan of James Herriot stories (books or the BBC series).
