I was hoping for a Speed Fireworks Challenge. Was anyone else?

We always hope, rarely receive... Thus, when we Do get the speed challenges, they are all the more a treat...

They don't have to be speedy. I will settle for regular speed fireworks.

Since I am going to the baseball game tonight and there will be a great fireworks show after where we get to sit on the field and watch them go off straight overhead, I am assuming there will be a speed challenge that will begin 2 hours after the show is over. With RA Dickey facing Sonny Grey, I expect very few fireworks during the game.

Ask and ye shall receive? You MUST be referring to Americans who ask and receive. All other requests for country specific challenges are ignored.

Pretty much sums up my feelings in this matter.

I used to think that perhaps I suffered from being overly patriotic and felt vexed when nothing relating to Canada ever made the grade.

I don't have that feeling anymore since I have reached the conclusion that DPC is exclusively centered on USA centric themes and the rest of the world can simply stuff itself.

In case some have yet to figure this out, other nations celebrate national holidays and the seasons differ depending on which hemispheres one lives in.

Ya I know, Canucks are supposed to be the ever polite and reserved individuals who say sorry even when it's someone else's fault, but I guess I simply don't fit the mold... so

Enjoy yet another challenge that is geared almost exclusively to the USA based members.

There...now I feel better.

i'm still submitting a canada day entry. voters can lowball me all they want, it's what i want to put in, so they can suck it up and look at my image for the 5 seconds it takes to formulate their opinion on how it doesn't meet the challenge. and i'll call it "it's 202 years since we burned the whitehouse, get over it".

Aren't you guys really just Americans who live a little further north, anyway?

This is sad for me...If DPC is going to be doing American holidays that is fine, the other major country holidays "should be" included as well.

They did add a mexico theme for may.. my friends that live in Canada, that is a huge day and its important to them just like our 4th is to us.
So, in place of ... I am doing an a Canadian one as well! LOL ( just happy this doesn't count against TPL) Is this called being rebellious now? LOL

On to culture photography! :-)) Bring it on eh?

That's very kind of you to say that. Thank you Larry ;)

I have never given any thought to the holidays of other nations. I have no way to participate in those holidays, there is nothing in my life to help me celebrate the holidays of other nations, I don't even know what they are. Now that I think of it, it would be fun to find out. I wonder which nations have no independence day to celebrate, or choose to not celebrate?

So, I challenge those of you from other nations to write up some challenge suggestions for YOUR holidays that we can share. And learn.

This map shows only 2 countries that have no national day--the UK & Denmark.

What about Bastille Day, or Guy Fawke's Night, or Eistedfodd (sp?), or Oktoberfest, or Up Helly AA, or Fiesta, or Holi, or Diwali, or any number of festivals across the world? Just seems a bit strange for this particular festival to get a second airing.

I can only urge people to write up challenges for those more international days and start a thread for them say, 2 weeks before the day itself. I'll see that the challenge gets posted to the queue in a timely manner so it's near the top at the right time, and the rest is up to Langdon. It helps to have an "inclusive" challenge description to encourage non-natives to participate. We did that with this one: "Fireworks" morphed to "4th of July" with a more wide-open description.

I'm sorry I missed Canada Day. I have been kind of out of it post-surgery. I'd guess that we could cobble up a joint celebration next year, eh?

If you think about it, there are loads of different holidays and we have a vast amount of people here from quite a lot of places...To expect the people in charge of making the challenges know every holiday or celebration from every country is a bit excessive.

I think this is a great solution.

...Absolutely right, but when one considers that the USA centric theme has been brought to the fore on other occasions, and bearing in mind that the Canada Day theme was discussed in the past and mentioned again this year prior to the event... I am certain that you can appreciate why why I would feel such frustration at this juncture.

I fully appreciate my friend Bear_Music's efforts to rectify the situation, but that does NADA to assuage the level of frustration I feel at this very moment.
