We have finally put "paid" to that ridiculous workaround where people had to print text out and photograph it in order to use it in Expert Editing: we have added a rule that explicitly allows text:

"You May: add text to your entry or its border during editing, but watermarks, copyright statements, and other text that serves to identify the photographer are forbidden."

Note that copyright statements, watermarks, and other uses of text that identify the photographer are still not permitted.

Too... many... positive........ changes lately. Can't... take it. *gasp* :) Great news!

Now let's review the SC to do list:

1. Clarify the artwork rule
2. Allow text in Expert
3. Rescind Art's past DQs and give him some extra ribbons and free membership as compensation

Not SC's job nor within their ability. That's a Langdon thing.

Huh? What the heck is 'twelvety billion'? Is that like twelve billion somethings all covered in velvet? Wow! That's a lot of velvet!

Probably. I don't know why you would even care. The only difference between adding text the old way and the new way is the pointless extra effort it took to do it, as well as yet another image for the SC to validate.

i just dont see the point in adding text to your entry..

i mean if the challenge called for it, in which case it was handled by as special rule anyway... people complain about the non-photographic nature of images in expert now what is adding text going to do?

It's for occasions like this... when... the image only works with text.

We can print it and photograph it and mask it ... or we can NOW just add it.

Because you don't see any need to add text, you don't like the rule change that allows it, even though in the past it could be added in a difficult fashion? I don't get it. If you don't like text, don't add it, or vote down images that have it. It doesn't change the fact that text can be added. It just changes how the text can be added, so for the most part, they'll probably be very little change in what you see in expert challenges.

Valentines challenge

I got DQ'd for adding text. I thought I couldn't use fonts, so I traced it by hand. But in photoshop.

Sometimes text is necessary for the picture

(the stores were out of the conversation hearts)

Mike, here's the deal: in the former Expert Ruleset, there was absolutely nothing to keep you from adding whatever text you wanted, photoshopped any way you wanted to, by creating it, printing it out, and photographing it, then masking the text image in as a layer. It was ridiculous. So we've just done the obvious thing and said, "If you feel like you need text in your image, be our guest. Some people will use it for environmental text, like Wendy's heart, or like adding text/graffiti to a wall, or altering street signs, or whatever. Some people will create "posters", sure, but as voters if we don't LIKE that, we can just vote 'em down.

And getting a flag on a challenge is not that easy. Sometimes Langdon does it, sometimes he doesn't. This way, it's just not an issue any more.

Katie, that was under Advanced - would still be DQ'd. Could've been done legally, though.

That was Advanced Editing, Katie. Added text is still not allowed in Advanced... He probably thought it was Expert...
