Keen botanists ahoy!
I found this remarkable flower today and was wondering if anyone could identify it. It's a lovely looking thing. The blue is probably a bit more purple in real life, pre processing.
Thanks! |

He certainly must have been. I think he should have kept the LSD up instead of dabbling with things like ketamine and coming up with slugs.
Wish i'd come across it a couple of weeks ago as it would have made a nice entry for Organic Geometry.

Apparently under the right growing conditions, they can go quite crazy. A friend from work had given me a plant, and she said her whole fence was covered with them without effort and in a dominating fashion. When planted on my patio, I only got a couple flowers. My patio was not the right growing condition though. It might have something to do with me being lazy and them requiring water... |

There's that. From what I've seen here in FL, they can either be cultivated or wild. When let go (wild) they do have a tendency to "take over". I don't know how far north they grow...but they are all around here and in some very rural areas (nature preserves n such) which tells me that they are native to Florida. It's a plant that I really like but I tend to have a black thumb...you know...requiring water thing...pffffftttt!!! |

Well, they certainly would get a lot of water here in Wales. Perhaps too much i guess. It was nice to see, what is to me, quite an exotic plant happily out in the open here. |

They do fine in the Bay Area -- they'll cover a chainlink fence in no time. They do produce fruit, presumably edible since I've seen "Passion Fruit" listed in many drink blends ... |

Passion fruit is about the size and shape of a lime, but with a hard shell. You cut it open with a sharp knife. What's inside is a slimy goo that looks like snot with seeds in it, but is one of the finest substances on the face of the earth. Tangy, sweet, with a bit of citrus flavor. Amazing.
The passion fruit in my backyard is one of the things I miss most about Southern California. |

If you have a South- or West-facing window you might be able to grow one in a large (e.g. 5-gal.) pot, maybe with a tomato-cage to train it up ... |
