Hello fellow shooters..... just a few weeks ago I was here on the forum wondering if the Canon 70d would be a fair upgrade from my T2i. Well, long story short, I bought a body only version of the 70d, .. and received it on Jan. 5th. I have taken very few pix with it, due to the weather.... cold, etc. So, now I hear that the specs on the T6i are going to be "better" than the 70d.... or so I am led to believe.

Did I make a mistake? should I trade in my 70d back to B&H, and get the T6i?

It never fails, I hem and haw forever in making a choice... then as soon as I do, a "bigger and better" comes right out.

What should I do? Is the T6i better than a 70d?

Thanks

Typically, any XXd Canon is better built and more responsive than the Rebel series. We currently actually HAVE a 70D. I haven't used it much, but it's an extraordinarily nice camera as far as I can tell, way exceeded my expectations. We got it in trade for one of our FF bodies as we moved over to Sony a7 gear, and we're holding onto it so we can continue to use our Lensbabies, mostly :-)

im not sure how the t6i will be better specwise but i doubt it would anything but marginal. the 70D is better built and has the protyle layout with the top lcd and more dedicated buttons. the t6i will be just like your t2i but newer. it won be as robust as the 70D.

to add the 70D will also have a better battery and be better in other ways, for instance the rebels use max out at 1/4000s shutter and the xxd will have 1/8000 which could be important, especially if you shoot with wide apertures in bright light.

In reading "rumors" it's supposed to have a top lcd, ... 24M pixels, ... Digic 6 image processor .... all better than the 70d

if it has a top lcd will it still be a rebel series? the body style has largely been the differentiating factor.

really though, new and better will always be coming out, just stick with what you have, its not like the latest and greatest will really increase your ability.

That is true. I have a 50D and a Rebel T2i. The Rebel slightly outspecs the 50D in many areas. Resolution, noise, low light perfromance. But it is 4 or 5 years newer technology. The 50D is more robustly built and is still my choice for action photography, due to a faster frame rate, more convenient controls, larger buffer and probably faster focusing.

Bacon, my opinion is just keep the camera you already bought. The differences in image quality won't be that great (if visible at all) and you can take fantastic photos with far less camera than that (As an example, my most recent ribbon winner was shot with an 8 year old Rebel XTi and the 18-55 kit lens). You might miss some of the semi pro features of the 70D if you switch to the Rebel. It really depends on what you are going be doing with it, however.
