Magnificent!

could be fun. I like double exposures although I certainly wouldn't do it in post processing. SO much fun in camera if the functionality exists - much more unpredictable :)

yes, that is where the fun is.

I agree with salmiakki and tnun, in camera is best because of the haphazard result factor. Not everyone's camera can do it though, so there needs to be a way to separate the "combine two images in processing" shots from the "shoot it in camera" shots for a challenge.

Exif only shows for one of the shots when you shoot a double in camera, which would be ok because the two exposures would be done at about the same time. Exif for the "combine two images in processing" shots would require both of the original images for time validation if necessary.
In any case, there it would have to be an honor system for submitting to keep it fair.

My primary cameras don't have the in-camera capability (at least I don't think so). Perhaps we have concurrent Double Exposure challenges -- one in-camera and the other Expert Editing?

How do you do an in-camera double-exposure??? Sorry for the clueless question...

in camera expert editing is still expert editing.

I think the 5D Mark III has a feature for this. I believe the 5D may not have it.

your fuji has it.

no problem with doing double x more than one way. I just prefer the in-camera way.

For Canons, 6D and 5DIII were the first cameras to offer this feature. None of the older Canons have it. I was very excited to try this "new" feature on my 6D when I got it - my profile pic is the result of one such experiment. I should note that these in-camera double exposure are considered outside of Advanced editing rules :(

Bump!
01/27/2016 11:12:28 PM · #17
2 of my cameras have the option of saving the participant exposures (Ricoh Gr, Nikon P340). 3 of them don't (Pana LX3, and Pentax 50 and K01).

Actually I can see why a serious camera wouldn't have the double/multiple exposure feature; using it can certainly while away the hours. Frivolously. But I'm not sure I would ever buy one. A serious camera, I mean.

Speaking of serious cameras...there are a bunch of double exposure apps for my iPhone.

Bumping this.
It would be Double Exposure II as the first one was in 2010 using basic (!) editing.

Show us your best double exposure by combining two different different shots into a single image. Post processing, in camera or using an phone app - all are OK :)

I think this would probably be the fairest way as it's more difficult to get a good shot in-camera than in Photoshop. My Olympus does double exposures, so I'd love to give the in-camera one a go.

I would like to try this. I had no idea my camera had this capability, but it does. Double exposure tutorial.

Creativity might emerge.

that was interesting, hahn. you've way more options/tweaks with the Canon than I have with any in my stable.

It doesn't need to be Extended Editing. We can just flag Standard Editing to permit doing a double-exposure either in-camera or in post, with no more than two source images.
