Unless you are ready to pull the trigger, don't click on any links in Amazon to read about Amazon Prime.

Before considering Prime, my orders, even with free shipping, were taking 3-4 days to arrive. Free 2-day and their video streaming service is tempting, so I had clicked through to read about the features of prime. Since then, I have received emails from Amazon regarding my interest in Prime and my orders have slowed to an absolute snail's pace. Pay-up-or-else, they seem to be saying. I have had a camera body on order with them for over a week now, shipped by Amazon. It is now scheduled to arrive on Tuesday, 11 days after ordering.

Its so slimy of them to slow down service AND send emails basically saying "we know you are considering Prime. Pay up or we are going to take our time for now on...". One step short of extortion....

Sorry to hear this, I never had such an experience, I know Amazon is not perfect and verges on monopoly, but could it possibly be coincidence?

I can attest that for less that 100 bucks a year- the amazon music and fast shipping would be a bargain. But add in the streaming video from amazon prime and, well, I can't live without it, at least for now, extortion or not.

I,m not sure this is positively the reason.

I accidentally did that on a order just a few mo ago, then I got charged their $99 fee, come to find out I never used it so I called and complained about it, when I noticed my bill. Because I never used it they refunded me my money and turned it off for me.

I do have to say their customer service rocks and never had issues when there were problems to be dealt with, however, I was told that if I had used that prime, I would have never gotten my money back.

I love amazon prime...worth every penny.

I have noticed that a lot more items seem to have a note about 'processing' delays even with Prime so they don't arrive in two days.

But since I live so rural, it is still the best way for me to get certain things. And I love the Prime streaming service, so I stay in for now. But the days where they easily stood out as the best seem to be past.

I've had only one occasion where a Prime order was delivered outside the 2-day turn around and that was due to a huge part of the east coast being paralyzed by a snow storm. And you can't count Sundays against your "2 days". If I've noticed anything it's that recently orders that come in after 4 pm seem to be pushed out a day, which didn't happen initially, and I don't really have a problem with that.

Be aware that not everything in the Amazon catalog is Prime eligible, so make sure you see the logo next to the price. If it's not there it's going to ship normally.

i love prime. I've had it for years. I doubt amazon would resort such practice in order to coerce you into signing up. amazon still relies on third parties so it may have been an issue with the third party shipping.

I love prime and have used it for several years now. I live out in a more rural area and it is very convenient. That said I have noticed signs of them getting "too big" and their customer service and shipping have started to slack a little bit. I haven't moved and I used to get everything in 2 days no exceptions except if I ordered something on a Thursday or a Friday and had the weekend in the middle. Now I'm lucky if I get anything in that 2 day window. Mostly it comes in 3 or 4 days. Which is fine I just wish they would say it when you order it. Sometimes you order something and are counting on it coming by a certain time, if I knew it would be coming a day or two after that time I would just go to the store and purchase it instead.

Also it used to be that if you accidentally ordered something or got something and changed your mind you could ship it back for free. A couple times they even let me keep the product and refunded my money instead of paying to ship it back because I was such a loyal customer. They don't seem to do that anymore and usually make you pay to ship back returns.

We do like their video streaming. I wish they would make it a little easier to navigate between the free stuff and the stuff you have to pay to stream.

I use prime over here and I'm really happy so far with the service, the delivery speed always surprises me in a good way.

After I had looked into it, I received an email with the following opening:

"We noticed you've shown an interest in unlimited FREE Two-Day Delivery.
If you haven't yet signed up for Amazon Prime, click the link below to learn more about the 30-day free trial."

Since then, 3 orders have taken the absolute maximum time to arrive. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Maybe they are just confused about sending a package to Nobody.

Our household has two Amazon accounts (just kind of happened ... long story). Anyway, one with Prime, one without. I hold the account without Prime and one time I did use the "try Prime for free" to hurry along a camera equipment purchase (of course), but cancelled the Prime "trial" within 30 days. Now I get offers about every 6 months or so to "try Prime again" but haven't had an urgent need. :-) With all of that said, we're quite satisfied with Amazon service with either account (Prime or not). Haven't seen any impact on delivery times for the non-Prime account.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with them Sam.

Coincidence? Yes, I think so. Amazon prides itself on its crazy good customer service, and being vindictive because somebody doesn't have prime doesn't sound like something they'd do. Are you getting the shipping notifications in a timely manner? Amazon controls how fast its products get through the warehouse to the shipper, but doesn't control the shippers, and whatever service they're using probably has a problem.

The real question is...have you called them about the problem you're having?

Edit: ipad. Autocorrect. Bah!

I do think it's a coincidence. We both have equal amounts of real evidence to back our claims. Is it possible that GAS is clouding your rational thought?

Did you know you can share prime accounts in a household?

My wife and I have separate Amazon accounts on purpose. The has prime, and she added my account as part of the household. I get the benefit of 2 day free shipping, but I don't get the free streaming. So for streaming, we just hook up devices to her account.

Hadn't considered that. If I need something shipped Prime we just order it on my wife's account. So, do you share the Prime shipping but have separate billing/payment methods? The reason I've stayed clear of my wife's account overall is because we have two college students and they do a lot of selling / buying of college textbooks via Amazon so I when it comes time to purchase something you have to wade thru three different accounts, and watch out for pending credits the kids have, etc... Messy in general (or for me at least). It I could take advantage of sharing the 'Prime' and stay out of the other account(s) I'll have to look into it.

Thanks!

I didn't know that. I need to look into that. We all just use my account because it is the one with prime but at Christmas time it is hard because we can see what we are getting each other.

Penny and I do that too. We have separate accounts on one Prime. Works great. She gets her notifications, I get my notifications.

I love Amazon Prime.

I once ordered something at 11pm on Friday night from Amazon.

It showed up in my driveway (via USPS) on SUNDAY afternoon. Yes, just a day and a half later.

I didn't even know USPS delivered anything on Sundays. Turns out they have a deal with Amazon.

We order stuff on a Friday and get guaranteed delivery for the Saturday and i'm always amazed when it arrives. We live in a remote area with no crime so if we are out the guy leaves the parcel somewhere sheltered against the elements and signs for it himself, never had a problem yet and we order a lot.

Amazon Prime has always been fantastic for me, too. Call 'em. They DO give a hoot.

They also deliver their Next-Day Express Mail on Sundays ... the modern version of "Special Delivery".
