this may be of interest. Apologies if it's already been posted up. Could see a thread anywhere.

Arkansas Senate passes bill which makes street photography illegal.

well in Taiwan we cannot publish, licence plates from cars or scooters, police, army (including vehicles), or anyone that is under contract of an agent (models, actors, etc..).
Street photography is not forbidden as long you do not take portraits without written permission. The law is very soft on it, as long nobody complains

Welcome to the land of the free....

This is the biggest can of frivolous lawsuits waiting to be opened....

So something like this, shot in Taiwan, is illegal to publish? Wonder if the license plate on his shirt is an actual number...

I wonder is Arkansas has speed and red light cameras. Wouldn't that fall under "illegal for them to be photographed or filmed on public grounds without a written consent."

"As I was blowing through that red light at 75mph, my photo was taken without my written consent, judge."

Oh, and hey, people in Arkansas, don't look at this, nothing to see here (well, actually, it's illegal for you to look):

The crazy in this is that it is a state law that extends to the far reaches of the globe. As I read it and the interpretation, it may be legal for me to publish a street photo taken of someone here in NJ without the subject's permission, but if I did not get it then they could sue me because it's made available in Arkansas. Unless there's a way for me to block IP addresses by state on EVERY social media site out there, I might as well never post an image with a human being in it again.

Just think about it. You go through a bad breakup. Now your ex can sue you because, in truth, you never explicitly asked for permission to take all those iPhone photos you stuck up on Facebook. Unless, of course, duck face implies permission.

But, you have to give yourself written permission to take and publish it.

Well thank God for level-headed thinking.

Wow, a Governor that actually listens to the people and vetos a bad bill! Wish they had those in a few more states... Indiana being one.
