I am interested in trying Flickr.

I have a few shots uploaded from years ago, but I never quite caught on with the groups etc. Now, one of my Facebook groups (for the FZ1000) is on Flickr, and I am curious to try it again.

Anyone here a diehard user? Is it a good place to get shots noticed, commented, etc, and not stolen? (Facebook seems to be a good place for that, but I don't like the fact that none of the pics on facebook have EXIF).

Tips and caveats? Should I watermark images?

How do you get "noticed" (after these years my two shots were not really noticed by any groups. Actually, I just noticed my "inbox" I actually was invited to join a group, but it seems to be a religion centric photography group--though it has 300K members!)

I see my photostream address is: https://www.flickr.com/photos/nshapiro/

I want add some photos but I also want to upload the right size. Tips?

I post out there occasionally, just for fun, if I have a decent shot. I don't really use it to "get noticed". Most of who I follow and who follows me are Baltimore area people.

But, I'm following you, now.

I have a few groups that use Flicker. I have had more of my images being taken on facebook, but never on flicker..

The groups I belong too are awesome at commenting, but its never critique kinda of things. always nice and cool shot kinda thing.. not really good at noticing unless you belong to a group that promotes things.. but I haven't been involved with them for a few months. I just like using it for photos that I don't plan on doing anything with and getting them deleted off of my computer.

I have more luck on google + for the communities than I did flicker as far as getting noticed... Due to google + a few of my shots were used as photos of the day for accuweather and even the local news station picked up one of my landscape photos as well as a local business that used one of my eagle photos... Kinda cool.

I was actually thinking about deleting the flickr account

I use it. I used to post really often, now it's when I get time/desire.

I like the groups. I don't care for the conversations, but rather the groups of similar photos. It's interesting to browse and see interpretations.

I like the comments. It's nice to feel good about a shot that scored poorly here :)

I like the "publicity." I have sold only a handful of images, but those images have prices I set, so it's generally much better per image money than stock is. In fact, a lame selfie of my wife and I sold for $125 to an ad agency from Europe making an ad for taking selfies on vacation. I would have never sold that without having the image on Flickr.

I like sharing with my family who doesn't have Facebook.

I dislike the comments (yup). So many of them are fluff or stupid animated images.

I dislike that religion centered group. They spammed everyone.

Tips:
Make sure to set the right license level and download abilities. Nobody but myself has access to the full images. And the license makes it clear when people are searching to not include mine in "free" images. I'm sure people will still screen grab and steal, but I'm too lazy to add a watermark.

Add images to a lot of groups, but make sure the group is specific (not something dumb like "All photos here please!!!" type groups). That seems to help people in searches.

I size my images at 75%. But flickr doesn't show that full size to others (see above).

i use it mainly for sharing and posting pics in other forums, 1TB of storage is nice but its still not 500px...

I'm tanguera75 on flickr. I've had intermittent success getting noticed. Have not participated in their forums. On the other hand, I have been contacted for the use of my images, and Getty found me on there as well

I like Flickr. I have posted some of my best pics out there. I am not a power user or a social media guru by any means. I do like it. and the storage capacity is great!!

I started using Flickr as a photo dump for far flung friends and family for all the things I would post on Facebook were it not for their usage policies. I was barely a serious hobbiest at the time, but as I got more serious I became more selective in what I shared. Presently my page is essentially an unedited historical portfolio with ever photo I've ever thought worthy of someone else looking at, even if it's just because I had a cool bird in the back yard.

That's both good and bad. Bad from the perspective that it showcases not just my best work but also my worst - at least the worst of what I was willing to share. But, and it's a big but, from the good side some of those photos that I'd never consider sticking in a 10-15 image portfolio showcasing me as a photographer, have earned me some decent money as people searching Flickr for stock images for use in publications or even as commercial wall hangings have contacted me about licensing them. So, if you do join, tag your images and post them to appropriate groups.

If you're curious, here's me on Flickr

I don't use the social aspects of it too often, and I'm actually amazed that even during lulls (like now) where I'm not posting much I will still get 1-2 new people following me each week.

When you say you tag your images, how exactly do you tag them?

You can add tags either at the time of upload or once they are up there (I usually do the latter). If I have a group of photos that all get the same tag then I'll use the organizer where I can drag a bunch of images into the organizer frame and then do everything from apply tags to send them to groups and even put them on a map so others looking for photos from that location can find them. Otherwise, if you click on any of the photos in your photo stream and scroll down, immediately below the camera information you will see the "Add Tags" option.

In general I will tag a photo with the subject (bird, bluebird, downy woodpecker, building, clouds, etc.), style (nature, street, architecture, abstract, studio), equipment (Nikon, D750, Sigma, Fisheye) and location (Easton, Pennsylvania, EastonPA, Crayola Factory, etc.) - and pretty much anything else applicable.

I use flicker for re-posting to other sites, especially recommended for e-bird, and very good for pentax forum -
