The newest version has finally arrived. Curious to see how much they have improved the speed, will have to wait until I get home this evening.

It is available as part of the CC and as a standalone product. The one downside of the standalone product is it will not receive any updates that the CC version will.

I'm watching a webcast about it with Scott Kelby while I wait for Adobe to push it to me (apparently they have a "smart" way of getting to folks over the course of the day without crashing servers - I got updates to PS, but not LR). Kelby is pushing the upgrades in speed big time, and it seems to be delivering. It'll be nice.

I downloaded it. But it won't start. The button lights for 10 seconds or so in the taskbar, then turns off (Windows 8.1).

I found some instructions about deleting the LR 5 preferences file and then retrying. I did that, but still it's a no go. Very disappointing.

Back up your catalogs and whatnot before you go, just in case.

I'll be giving it a test run later this evening. Very interested to see how the performance improves, and hoping that my rather old GPU is supported!

Just so you're all aware, it's 64-bit only.

At this point I'd hope we'd all be running a 64-bit OS, but I know there are still some folks who are still running a 32-bit version, so yes, do check your OS version before plunking your money down.

Well this is special - I'm getting the splash screen for a split second and then nothing. FML

That's what happened to me. On the forum it's been "figured out".

Sign out of Adobe CC. In the preferences of the desktop app. It's not sufficient to even reboot. You have to sign out and back in to Adobe CC.

I've been in and out a couple times, but this time it worked. Thanks, Neil.

The HDR feature is very nice. I just wish, since there's almost no settings, it didn't make you wait for the preview each time.

I think it works as well as HDRSoft's Mergeto32Bit plugin I normally use.

If you haven't created a 32 bit master before using that, check out Lightrooms. Note you'll have 10 stops up and down in the exposure adjustment rather than the usual 5!

Installed on my old desktop without a hitch. My old Quadro FX 570 graphics adapter is supported :-) Now to explore some of the new features!

Well, there is no doubt, this old beast could benefit from some extra RAM, LOL. 8GB is just not enough for generating a pano within Lr. The results, once they finally rendered, were surprisingly good, however!

Is anyone like me still using the Stand alone LR? My lightroom prompts me to upgrade to 5.7 but when I click download, the usual way I do, it opens up Adobe CC and wants me to buy it.

I'm using LrCC...paying for it and totally happy...wouldn't have ever been able to buy the stand-alone but I sure can afford $10 a month!!! Best part is I'm always 100% updated...never having to pay for YET another update for PS/LR...to me that's "priceless"

You realize a new version of Lightroom was like $99 when I bought the first one, and updates have been $79, and I can use them forever. When you are done with 6 years at $10 you will have paid $600 and if you stop paying, you have nothing to use.

Until your computer dies and the old software won't run on the up-to-date replacement ... :-(

I have a stand alone version of Lightroom 5 on my desktop. I recently signed up for the CC photographers plan anticipating this update to LR and wanting to use PS.

I am trying to download the updates to my computer. I am logged in to the Adobe web site, and all it wants to do is sell me another CC membership. I checked my account status and it shows I have the monthly membership. Will I be able to download the updates or do the CC membership and the stand alone LR versions refuse to work together?

Thought I would ask here before starting down the Adobe help desk path....

I still have the standalone version. When it asked me if I wanted to download 5.7, I just went and bought the 6.0 upgrade. Which, oddly, seems to have updated my LR 5 to 5.7 as well.

Same thing here - will watch to see what the result is!

I bought a standalone LR 4 a couple of years ago and recently upgraded to LR 6. Adobe sure makes it hard for you to find the standalone version on their site. Took me ages to navigate the site to find the standalone. Also, it is not very obvious that you don't have to buy the new version at full prise if you have an older version. I paid AU$99 for the LR 6 upgrade, instead of AU$198.

LRCC gets updated via the Creative Cloud Desktop Manager. There's an Apps tab there that should show what updates are available and you should see LRCC in there. Just click on the Update button.

If I understand your question, you are either going to use LRCC or LR6, though I suspect they can both reside on your computer. You cannot use LRCC-specific functions (like linking to LR Mobile) on LR6 even if you have both.

A little more experimenting with Lr 6:
- The pano function probably will work OK for "easy" panos. I fed it a couple difficult ones, and it had the same issues as Ps CS6. It's a nice feature, but I won't be giving up my PTGUI Pro.
- Face detection, sometimes scary good, sometimes in left field. The interface for identifying/confirming un-named people is good but could use a little polish. I loved how it picked up dog faces in addition to people faces... and it really made me howl with laughter when it tentatively identified a blonde lady with curly hair as my poodle!
In general, speed does seem to have improved. What I have not done yet is import, cull and develop a large group of photos. That will tell the tale.

Have you totaled up what your cost would have been if you were always "up to date" on both Lr & Ps? Yes, I could have used them forever BUT I'd never EVER be up to date with my software. Many on this site that are using very outdated software, still works but it's not current. For my Lr I spent $149 (first one I got) then $79 for each upgrade in software...I started out with Lr3. $307 just for Lr.

Ps is a whole different animal, I never EVER could have afforded that puppy. From CS/PS 3 to present. $600 initial cost. Not sure what the updates would have been, weren't they full price for each upgrade? And there have been at least 4 upgrades since...Bottom line I'm totally happy with what I have and it's updated weekly/monthly/daily...as they release. I have all the functions, every last stink'n one of them...and I don't have to wait to make the next "upgrade purchase"...yet again. Again Priceless for me...

Thanks Jake, that was helpful. I'm in the process of updating the CC applications.
