my website is hosted with squarespace. I like it, its easy to keep updates, etc. I what im looking is a more seemless way to share the images with my clients, specifically proofing.

i have a ton on storage between google drive (100GB) and one drive (50gb) however neither allows me to password protect individual folder or offers an easy way to allow the client to choose with image they like.

dropbox while is able to be password protected i can't use it for proofing.

at this point i have no problem using one drive to store and send electronic files, but i'm looking for a good (free?) online proofing site. I dont need a lot of images space, since I can just keep removing old stuff, just something i can link to my existing site.

I think the cheapest Zenfolio account -- basic plus --will do what you want. $30 per year.

Customizable photo hosting website

Fully-featured portfolio website & Blog
4 GB of storage + 2 GB/year
Uploading plug-ins
Mobile-ready layouts and mobile apps
Professional themes and your own designs
Photo galleries with large images
Slideshows with music
50 FREE songs from Triple Scoop Music
Integration with Social Media
Access control with passwords
Ordering prints and photo products

And 10% off with this referral: //www.zenfolio.com/?refcode=nrshapiro

Pretty much unbeatable price, and I'm generally happy with them (except the premium pricing is now $150)

Also, if you had your own space and could install your own custom software, Piwogo is a nice open source gallery. I contemplated moving there with my personal galleries...sample here I've not checked if they support password protected galleries, but probably. Or just use Wordpress. But then, you need a host, which will cost you $30 or more anyway.

when i hosted my own site i used to use proofbuddy, and it worked just well. I just checked out pixie, seems ok. nice for making a pretty web album, but not so much letting me know what images my clients want.

what i dont want is an integrated print service, i have my own, i just need to know what images they want. :)

If you have your own website, something like this might work: create a password-protected folder there. Into that folder, put previews with links (like DPC thumbnails work) which go to the full-sized image hosted on GoogleDrive (or wherever), and an option (checkbox?) to place an order for that image. The web-page you put there can function as a combined catalog/order form.

i can only make a site password. i thought about trying to make a storefront somehow, but its seems a bit complicated for proofing. there are a lot pf proofing site but except pixie, all are astronomical in price for what little i need. I dont have a huge demand for proofing but when i do, my current method is clunky.

Interesting ... I remember working with a hosting site a long time ago where there was some simple HTML code or settings which would protect an individual folder. I thought it was a standard feature ...

I think you can protect folders with DropBox -- if you're constantly recycling the content (only posting current customer proofs) might that be big enough?

squarespace only allows a site wise password, that may change in the future.

right now i can use one drive and share out the folder to the clients to download, no passwords needed, i'm really looking for a way to let the clients choose images.

Zenfolio is configurable. They offer a print service but you don't have to enable it. You can just use it for proof galleries, and you can password protect them.

There's a free 30 day trial, and so you can play with it for a day or 30 and see if it meets your needs.
