Ok -- we probably have too many threads (posthumous, spleen, didn't make top 20, etc.) for this one to work. But I'm hoping people give it a try.

The reasoning behind it: I was excited to see the thinking outside the box challenge. But I found it disappointing and not enough.

It's fun to think outside of the box, though I've always liked closed in places, so I'm happy in my box. But I think it's more important to be able to see beyond the box when looking at a challenge. Being able to see things makes us better photographers however boxed in we choose to be.

I've enjoyed the posthumous thread, but so many times I say "whaaaat??? What were they thinking???" but I also I find myself saying "sweeeeet!".

And then comes the music challenge. I played violin for 7 years and then piano for many more. I sing. I found myself understanding so many more "out of the box" photos than I usually do. Yet many of the photos had large numbers of ones and DNMC votes. But yet I heard the music.

Instead of having the photographer explain what they were thinking, I'd love to know what the voters are thinking when they see something that most of us are missing. Why does it work for you? What makes you hear the music?

If you're interested -- pick your top picks that didn't get much love from others, and tell us what you see.

Please try this for a couple of challenges. It could be an interesting experiment. I'll go find my music picks and start it off.

I read the title wrong. I read it as "in her eyes". And for the rest of the day, I was singing the Beatles song.

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years

And then I checked the lyrics, because I couldn't remember the whole thing and I saw this, and it was even more brilliant.

You stay home, she goes out
She says that long ago she knew someone but now he's gone
She doesn't need him

It explained the walking away and gave it so much more meaning. But then I realized that it wasn't that title at all! And I felt cheated! But then I kept hearing the music. This photo caused me to hear music for days. And when I saw it again, I didn't care that I misread the title, I kept hearing the music. Nothing else caused the music anywhere near this extent.

I didn't see it at first, but they're piano keys. It even has the extra white keys, though not in the right places. :) But the fact that they were there at all was awesome!

And then I started thinking about stairs that I've seen at a science museum that played notes as you went up and down. And on the movie Big when the jumped on the keyboard pad to play.

It wasn't obvious at first, but played more music than most of the entries.

By the way -- anything that anyone bothers to comment on or mention in here can post a Where's the Box bling on the profile. I need to create the bling. I'll put it in the original post.

It was a brilliant bird photo, so it caught my eye. But then I was sad that there wasn't music.

But the was.

Have you ever listened to water -- I mean seriously listened to it? Listen to a thunderstorm. The rain as it starts slowly and builds and builds and then culminates with the crashing of the thunder. And then slowly fades away. Listen to the ocean as it eats the shore. And this shot, oh the music. Look and listen. What a glorious piece.

There's more in this one, but I need to run.

This really fell flat, didn't it. I was guessing it would. :)

"Canada" is not such an interesting box. some of the upcoming challenges might work better.

Loved this. A simple performance pose, pretending to play. I can almost hear humming as accompaniment. And the bubbles... Lawrence Welk would be proud.

I imagine the leaf notes, rather low in tone, as they sit below the vine (line). The pattern creates a repetitive down, up, down, up, down (re do me do re) melody that creates a minimalist tune that complements the image composition.
