Will the new L16, coming from a Silicon Valley startup called Light, really be a DSLR-killer?

Maybe I missed something but I didn't see any mention of sensor size.

They do say "52 Megapixels", which suggests a pretty big sensor, and the sample image is amazingly crisp. It seems to have functionality for selective focus that calls to mind the Lytros camera. Very interesting looking camera. I'd be tempted if it does what they say.

A very exciting direction, for sure. Certainly innovative and possibly game-changing.
If popular, I'm sure it will also open a new market for lighting and accessories as well - not to mention the competition it may inspire.

16 lenses with 10 active at any time. It's an extremely interesting product and I'm very intrigued by the possibilities, but there are a ton of unanswered questions.

52 megapixels? Sure, but given that you're capturing 10 lenses worth of data simultaneously, are they spread around and then reassembled? In other words, if I'm combining 3 images of 16MP's in an HDR composite, do I technically have 48MP's of image information?

It's a steep buy at $1699 and without knowing more or having a pile of cash burning a hole in my pocket I'd be hard pressed to lay down the $199 to get one at the $1299 introductory price 10 months from now. Not to say I wouldn't love to have one to play with.

It's hard to wrap my head around how 10 lenses in slightly different positions could line up to create a single high resolution image. Especially something close to the camera.
