I am in serious need of Mac help here.

I import my pics, shot NEF, to iPhoto. Then after selecting and exporting the ones I want I export them to the desktop as originals (NEFs) and click n drag them to Adobe DNF Converter. It converts the NEFs to DNGs and all is good with the world. I then launch PS CS 5 and go about my work.

Until tonight. I got a nice pic for Painterly, did all of the above...and suddenly DNG Converter goes on strike. Refuses to open the NEFs and convert them. I shut down the Mac and restarted it but the result is still the same. Been checking stuff like a stuck key, Caps On etc....nothing that I can see has changed, except I've bitched about my mac mini here a little.

*sigh*

So re-imported the image as a max-fine jpg, but it ain't the same. Any help appreciated.

If you can upload the NEF file somewhere I can convert it to DNG for you, just PM me with a link. I'm assuming the issue is the CS 5 won't open D7100 files?

Just curious, have you tried using the old fashioned conversion dialogue within the DNG converter instead of the click-n-drag approach?

Respectively yes, CS5 won't open D7100 NEFs, and I have only ever used clickndrag for DNG Converter and it's always worked fine. Where is the conversion dialogue in DNG...cause mine ain't showing one... :-( Maybe my DNG expired overnight?

If you just open the Adobe DNG Converter app you get this...

Choose the source folder in the first box and leave everything else as is and it'll put the DNG files in the same folder once you click CONVERT.

Yes, just found it in the Mac's menu of recent items. Sucks though that from now on I have to put everything in a folder before I can convert it, but at least it works.

So....why'd the clickndrag method go toes up on me?

No idea. Sorry.

Ah well, thanks for your help anyway. I'll see if there is a more utd version of DNG kickin around out there while I'm at it. Just glad that I was able to get a decent entry from the maxed jpg, and an even better one (crossing fingers) from the dng!

In case anyone's interested, I downloaded the Adobe DNG Converter's 9.1 version (it was version8.3 that quit on me) and now I am once again able to do a simple dragndrop to convert NEFs to DNGs.

I see that there is a 9.3 version of DNG converter available too but there seem to be issues with it, which I don't need. So 9.1 is the new golden child here :-)

Looks like it was a software problem, not the Mini.
.
Glad you got it solved and are smooth cruising again.
