Looking for an inexpensive waterproof camera for a teenager to take to the florida keys on a scuba trip. Anyone have any suggestions/experience? It really should be $400 or less, preferably $300 or less. Some say waterproof, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this.

I have been eyeing up the sea life 1400 for a while. A little more pricey than I would like, but seems to be the best point and shoot for diving.

Look into the Fuji XP80.
it's waterproof to 50ft, has wifi and remote control via phone or tablet.

I owned the XP20 for a while and loved it. It got lost somewhere along the way, and I still miss it for rainy days and canoeing trips.
Check eBay.

A good quality ziploc baggie?

I have the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS5.

I am very pleased with it. It's quite old now so you should be able to find some good deals. My daughter also used it for snorkeling and some shallow dives. I personally took it down to 12-14m.

I would recommend it. It is also shockproof so it's good choice for camping as well and it has wi-fi build in which means remote control and tripod!

I've never used one, but I was curious and looked to see what's out there. And I had an idea.

Why not one of the sports action cameras? They can be had for $150 or so, even waterproof to depths. And some support 4K. That's my idea...at least with Panasonic 4K you can grab a high resolution still from any segment of the video. That's only an 8mp camera, but you have the advantage of awesome video at the same time.

And looking through some of those, this one, a bit pricier than most, looks pretty good: //www.amazon.com/AEE-Technology-S71T-Plus-Touchscreen/dp/B017ROHHTI/ref=sr_1_35?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1449205313&sr=1-35&keywords=4k+underwater

But there's plenty to choose from. Just find one that allows you to capture stills from it. Panasonic's 4K still feature from the FZ1000 (not waterproof) has two options: shoot a photo aspect ratio but 4k, or shoot regular 4k. You can grab great stills from either.

Anyway, have a look.

The waterproof Lumix I have does not have 4K but my Lumix LX100 has 4K. It's very neat.

I agree with Neil having a look at the sports action camera.

I've got a little Sony that's pretty awesome. Have to look up the exact model.

Absolutely look into Olympus Tough TG4. True underwater performer with amazing macro mode, 16MP RAW files, bright f2 lens and can be used as a simple point and shoot. Sells for around $350 so fits your budget.

A strong second to this suggestion. I just bought it after wishing for the TG3 which sold out due to higher than expected demand. The Olympus rep told me that they underestimated the demand for the TG3 when they lumped projections for sales of this camera in with regular point and shoots. They sold out and the factories said that they had already retooled for other cameras when they asked for more. He said that I would have to wait for the TG4.

I'd like to take credit for this next part, but I didn't have that much influence. I told him that I would like for the next model in this lineup to have RAW capability and....presto! Now this camera has almost everything that I could wish for in a waterproof, pocketable, point and shoot.

Wait, there's more. Olympus has it on sale now for $299! Get it while you can. You won't regret it.

Thirded, kind of anyway. I have the TG-3 and I am quite happy with it. I would assume the TG-4 is an improvement on it.

I bought it for a family vacation last year and took lots of shots with it. My only complaint on the quality was that there is quite a bit of distortion at the edges at the shortest focal length. You said it was for a scuba trip though, so the P&S cameras may not be rated for the appropriate depths. The TG-3 is good for 50', which seemed to be about the standard for the type of camera when I was buying. That isn't that deep when diving.

They're diving with scouts. The hubby looked it up and sounds like they have a max depth of 60 feet on their adventures. Am I naive to think that it says 50 but probably could do 60?

Regarding go pro, he really is more of a photograph vs video kid.
